DuPont is recruiting for a Reliability Engineer at the Spruance manufacturing site in the Richmond, VA area.

As a Reliability Engineer you will be responsible to provide technical expertise and guidance on all matters of reliability engineering, assessment and monitoring for all process equipment (including mechanical, fixed, electrical and instrument /control equipment).

The individual in this position also carries out reliability studies on existing equipment and recommends needed improvements to Operations management in the areas of equipment philosophies, strategies, and best practices for asset productivity.

This position is the "go to person" for all matters of equipment reliability. This position focuses on enhancing equipment reliability through analysis versus first response or day-to-day trouble shooting of failed equipment.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Serve as leader and/or a member of the area Reliability Improvement Team.

  • Apply engineering theory, practices, and principles to perform failure analysis, such as RCFA and 5-Why, to determine root cause of equipment failures and conduct equipment performance evaluations.

  • Actively participate in maintenance and reliability networks and share best practices, successes, and failures. Leverage network learnings to improve Reliability at the plant site.

  • Actively seek personal development and continuing education opportunities. Utilize professional organizations (e.g., SMRP) and reliability conferences to keep current on and evaluate new and emerging technologies for their applicability back at the plant site.

  • Provide Reliability Leadership, coaching, and support to area production personnel related to early work identification, Standard Operating Procedures, and practices impacting general/overall machine health.

  • Continually promote consistency by standardizing procedures/equipment/operations within area of responsibility.

  • Support of mechanical turn-around/shutdown teams providing input and leadership into needed equipment inspection and repair procedures, particularity rotating equipment.

  • Identify and support training needs for maintenance technicians and others supporting Reliability and Maintenance functions.

  • Develop and implement equipment asset plans using Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA+) and other reliability techniques.

  • Analyze equipment trends, historical data, field data, and Uptime/OEE data to recommend and justify improvements to obtain lowest life cycle cost on different classes of equipment.

  • Analyze equipment Criticality and develop/improve maintenance strategies and spare part strategies to prevent a failure event and ensure attainment of production objectives.

  • Determine how process variation and equipment operation can impact equipment reliability and provide leadership and support to drive improvements.

  • Support capital projects by participating in selection of equipment “fitness for use” criteria and specifications to optimize equipment/system reliability and life cycle cost. Also provide technical support for QA/QC, installation, and start-up of all new critical equipment.

  • Calculate/Provide appropriate metrics and KPIs to area and site to drive reliability improvement, such as: Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), Worst Actors, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering preferred, with a minimum of 3-5 years industrial maintenance experience.

  • Data analysis techniques and statistical interpretation skills.

  • Systematic decision making, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and implement multiple concurrent projects/initiatives.

  • Strong interpersonal skills (oral and written communication) with the ability to act as a “Change Agent” to influence/collaborate with leaders, peers, and technicians.

  • Ability to build, lead, and work as a team member is a respectful manner in a diverse work environment.

  • Project Management, leadership, planning and organization experience.

  • Advanced personal computer skills and Maintenance systems knowledge (CMMS).

  • Familiarity with petro chemical production equipment including tanks, vessels, piping, pumps, compressors, fans, valves.

  • Familiarity with Reliability analytical tools (e.g., Weibull analysis, reliability growth plots), Reliability tools (e.g., FMEA), and failure analysis techniques (e.g., RCFA) with ability to lead an RCFA team.

  • Understanding of Cost/Capital analysis and justification processes.

  • Ability to take Reliability analyses and translate them into the business stake, and clearly communicate the opportunity to line management.

  • Six Sigma certification as either Black Belt or Green Belt.

  • Familiarity with Maintenance, Reliability, and work management processes.

  • Able to understand and use the Meridium reliability analysis tools.

  • Understanding and ability to teach physical failure analysis and evidence preservation techniques.

  • Uptime metric and how to use the Upbase® software to extract operating data.

  • Champion for Design for Reliability and Maintainability, and Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis.

  • Familiar with rotating equipment and alignment techniques.

  • Vibration analysis and interpretation of vibration analysis results.

  • Fundamentals of nondestructive testing including thermography.
