What you will do – Essential Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues in Compensation and Payroll to build reliable, transparent, and flexible software that ensures associates get paid in a correct and timely manner.

  • Market your innovative ideas internally and evolve them according to feedback and critique within an agile environment.

  • Stay on top of industry trends and best practices to continuously improve what we do and ensure our software is reliable, expandable, and traceable.

Purpose of the role

It takes a passion for technology to develop ground-breaking products. Working collaboratively and creatively as part of the Payroll Technology team, you will be part of the development process from end to end: working with analysts and product owners, tackling complex business problems, implementing innovative solutions, and developing auditing, validation, reporting, and health monitoring processes.

Qualifications and Requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Decision Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical experience is required

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of programming languages/platforms such as C#, .NET, Azure, and SQL

  • Expert knowledge in relational databases such as Oracle, MS, or SQL server is preferred.

  • Extensive experience with API design and integration is preferred

Software Specific Qualifications and Requirements

Experience in the following required:

  • Significant experience writing SQL queries, stored procedures and functions – and debugging and diagnosing performance and accuracy issues in database environments.

  • Experience designing unit tests to match and validate customer requirements, with experience in test-driven design a plus.

  • Demonstrable experience acting as the lead and a subject matter expert on a successful software project.

  • Experience with Azure message bus, functions, and other Azure hosted technology.

  • Familiarity with using and building ETL tools, and the general transfer and transformation of large amounts of data.

  • Excellent analytical and logical problem-solving skills combined with the talent to quickly grasp new concepts.

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

  • The ability and desire to navigate, troubleshoot, and expand legacy software on varied platforms.

  • Must be able to understand complicated incentive-based pay plans and articulate conflicts to less technical stakeholders.

Work Location and Arrangement

This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA CarMax Technology Innovation Center or the Dallas, TX Technology Hub and have a Hybrid work arrangement.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
