About this job

The centralized Asset Protection team’s purpose is to promptly and thoroughly conduct Asset Protection investigations in a manner than is fair, unbiased, and consistent with CarMax values, and to provide prompt support to questions and support needs arising from our stores, CECs, corporate and auto finance sites The Asset Protection Sr. Consultant provides direct AP support for all locations and associates and conducts routine AP investigations. The Sr. Consultant manages their work and assigned case load primarily within the ThinkLP HRAP Case Management system. The Sr. Consultant also participates in core home office AP team meetings to ensure high level of internal department collaboration as well as with store management and other home office departments, including but not limited to Human Resources, Customer Relations, etc.

What you will do

  • Field and respond to questions and requests for support made by field managers and associates on a full range of Asset Protection and Background Screening issues.

  • Serve as single point of contact for each matter, seeing each issue through to resolution.

  • Receive and respond to queries / requests from Associates or Managers via various media, including phone, email and chat.

  • Consult and problem solve with Managers and Associates on issues that lack clear procedures, policy, or precedent.

  • Partner with or redirect certain inquiries to other company functions as appropriate, including other Asset Protection teams, Human Resources, Facilities, EH&S, external vendors and others.

  • Own and conduct routine Asset Protection investigations that are generated by Associate Help Line reports, managers or associates reporting issues directly to Asset Protection, by Asset Protection analytics, or by Background Screening systems. Investigations will often include issues of suspected fraud, theft, or other violations of the Asset Protection Policy.

  • Research issues related to reported allegations or concerns.

  • Conduct interviews with involved parties.

  • Proactively identify issues for additional analysis, escalation, or partnership

  • Partner with Legal, E&I, Human Resources, Associate Relations, and others as needed for cases whose outcome cannot be determined without additional expertise.

  • Calibrate findings with the Senior Manager of Asset Protection and work closely in collaboration with Regional Asset Protection Leader(s), Asset Protection Managers and the Asset Protection Analytics Team.

  • At times, support investigations that are led by the RAPL or Field Asset Protection Director.

  • Develop resolution recommendations, including performance management, employment decisions, or other warranted outcomes.

  • Partner with involved parties’ Management Team on necessary background information, recommended resolution, and any additional recommendations.

  • Throughout all activities, operate within case management system to ensure interview notes, supporting evidence, findings, recommended outcomes ,case reports, and required notifications are properly documented.

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all Asset Protection policies, procedures, controls, and programs.

  • Maintains and cultivates a network of law enforcement contacts to collaborate and assist with investigations involving CarMax.Support process improvement efforts, including development of standard documentation and resources.

  • Participate in core AP team activities as needed.

  • Provide real-time feedback to centralized support technology and service providers.

  • Absorb additional AP advisory and consulting support responsibilities as identified as opportunities for centralization.

  • Own assigned AOR (Areas of Responsibility) such as Tier 2 Fraud, Background Screening adjudication, Internal queue, compliance programs, etc.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Three or more years of Asset Protection or comparable experience, including investigation, interview and case management experience.

  • Multi-unit retail or equivalent experience a plus.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office systems, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel required

  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication, and customer service skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization

  • Ability to dig into an issue and look at the situation from multiple angles, applies different methods to develop conclusions, and anticipates challenges

  • Ability to facilitate consensus in decision-making; partners with others as needed

  • Ability to provide strong customer service to all parties involved in an investigation

  • Ability to own the work, make and follow through on commitments; detail oriented, able to manage multiple issues and meet changing deadlines

  • Must be flexible, adapt to change easily, and able to exercise independent discretion on matters of significance

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA Home Office and have a Hybrid work arrangement.
