This position is responsible for managing the food safety, quality and regulatory risks of designated product categories. The role will partner with cross-functional teams to define product specifications and evaluate suppliers and private label products within assigned categories. The role will proactively work with private label suppliers, business clients and other stakeholders to build process controls to manage food safety and quality risks. The role with partner with suppliers on investigations regarding product food safety and quality.
This position has been segmented as Hybrid meaning there is a combination of three onsite days per week and the rest remote.
Responsibilities:
Ensures compliance of all assigned suppliers and products to US Foods requirements regarding food safety, quality and regulatory compliance, approving/suspending/restricting/disqualifying as required. Responsible to monitor approximately 50+ supplier facilities depending on the category(ies) supported.
Collaborates with assignedsuppliersto maintain product specifications to ensure consistent adherence to food safety, qualityand regulatory requirements. This requires teaming up with the Category Management teamto hold suppliers accountable to US Foods requirements.
Conducts supplierfacility risk assessments both through reviewing documentation and by conducting on-site inspections to evaluate regulatory performance standards, critical to quality attributes, processing techniques, environmental monitoring and general microbiology.
Manages investigations regardingproduct safety and quality.
Participate as an active member of the cross-functional team enabling commercial success through maintenance offood safety standards and food regulatory compliance requirements while balancing innovation and commercialization needs.
Provides or identifies resources to assist in providing food safety, quality and regulatory subject matter expertiseto cross-functional business partners including policies and regulations (including those specific to assigned product categories such as FSIS, Low Acid Canned FoodProcessing, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, The Produce Rule etc.)
Working knowledge of specific regulatory programs related to assigned product category(ies)
Partners with Product Development to design new products and define product specifications and plays a key role in the product review process. Provides ongoing diligence by ensuring product conformity to defined specifications and managingthe internal and supplier approval process.
Participates in plant trials and/or first productions, as appropriate, for new and/or existing products. Accountable for ensuring that the productmeets brand standards at both the food safety and quality level.
Complete product quality evaluations for all new and existing products as required per project for approvals and/or investigation follow-up.
Actively manages supplier, customer and internal feedback to supportproduct quality and drive continuous improvement.
Analyze complaint and product evaluation data to identify trends and opportunities with products and suppliersto drivecontinuous improvement. Compile and issue quarterly FSQ scorecard to assigned suppliers.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in applicable field of science for the role, (e.g. food science, dairy science, meat science, animal science, plant science, engineering, microbiology, etc.) or commensurate degree.
Certifications/Training:
FSMA (PCQI) Certified, Required
HACCP/Seafood HACCP Certified
Food Safety/Quality Training
Related Experience:
Minimum 5 years Food Safety Quality experience required, with 2+ years’ experience in a food manufacturing environment.
Must demonstrate thorough technical knowledge of Food Safety, Food Processing, FDA and USDA Regulations, Food Ingredients, Nutrition and Allergens, Crisis Management, Food Fraud, Specification Development, Quality Standards, Quality Systems, Product Commercialization Support, Sensory Evaluation, Sanitary Design and Environmental Monitoring, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and GFSI Certification Schemes.
Proven record of sound judgment and professionalism.
Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills, able to explain business and regulatory requirements with clarity and precision.
Adept at problem solving, assessing risks and thinking outside of the box in order to find the best solution.
Strongorganizational and computer skills with knowledge of Office 365 programs.
Strong interpersonal skills, skilled at building relationships, must be a team player with an ability to inspire trust and confidence with stakeholders at all levels.
Works well under pressure, handles high stress situations and manages expedited timelines.

Ability to be on call after hours.
Up to 30-40% travel including overnight travel -some travel may be out of the country
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize required
Understanding of environmental monitoring programs, and application of FSMA/Preventive Controls, Food Safety Plan design, measurement, documentation and training; required.
Strong interpersonal skills required, including the ability to interact across organizational levels
Universal Pay Verbiage:
Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law. The expected base rate for this role is between $75,000 - $120,000
This role will also receive an annual incentive plan bonus.
