JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Observability Engineering will lead the strategic vision and execution of all Infrastructure and application observability initiatives within the organization. This pivotal role involves defining and implementing logging, governance, optimization, monitoring, and control strategies, including the development of forecasting and chargeback models for the observability platform. This role will collaborate closely with stakeholders across GT engineering, Infrastructure, and enterprise architects to design and implement services, monitor performance, and automate processes where applicable.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of observability principles, be highly skilled in Dynatrace, Splunk, and other observability tools, and have a proven track record of driving successful observability projects in complex environments.

Key responsibilities include:

Designing, implementing, and maintaining high-performance and scalable observability solutions across complex enterprise environments.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, architect solutions, and deploy logging and monitoring environments that align with business needs.

Utilizing in-depth knowledge of AWS, Azure, and Alibaba Cloud technologies to architect and manage logging and monitoring tool deployments.

Leading optimization efforts for the observability platform and exploring alternative solutions using automation technologies like Cribl.

Onboarding data sources from various IT infrastructure and application components into observability tools such as Dynatrace, Grail, Splunk, SignalFx, and Cribl.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science or equivalent experience/certifications

  • 8+ years of experience in information technology with hands-on technical/engineering roles, including:

  • 5+ years of experience with managing observability solutions using tools like Dynatrace, Grail, Splunk Cloud, Cribl, etc.

  • 3+ years of experience in AWS, Azure, and Alibaba Cloud platforms' log ingestion solutions.

  • 3+ years of experience in data onboarding within large-scale enterprise environments.

  • 3+ years of technology leadership experience where you served as a technical product owner or program manager:

  • Experience driving a product from the concept phase through maturity.

Preferred:

  • Graduate Degree in a technical discipline

  • Proficiency in Dynatrace Query Language (DQL), including building dashboards, reports, and alerts.

  • Experience in integrating observability tools with other IT Operations solutions such as Harness, ReadyAPI, ServiceNow, and BigPanda.

  • Strong knowledge of emerging tools, software, applications, and AI solutions for achieving best-in-class IT technology across the enterprise.

  • Experience in researching emerging technologies, trends, standards, and products.

  • Experience in establishing and implementing observability best practices to standardize, monitor, and control usage/performance of solutions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of audiences, including executives, business stakeholders, and IT teams.

  • Ability to create constructive relationships, influence, and communicate (to product team, engineering management, and non-technical staff)

  • Delivery focused with experience in Kanban and/or Agile

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as software engineers, system administrators, security teams, leadership, and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment on requirements and design to promote a smooth delivery.

  • Develop the roadmap and the Go to Market plan while defining how support, training, internal marketing, and accessibility will be handled.

  • Work with stakeholders to define operational metrics and observability for different products and services

  • Maintain industry knowledge and enhance subject matter expertise, identify trends and changes in technology and automation strategies.

  • Develops and communicates a point of view on complex technical topics. Aligns multiple domains, both technical and non-technical, on this common vision.

  • Creates and articulates an innovative and compelling value proposition so that MI executives clearly realize the benefits and transformational value of Observability products

Managing Projects and Priorities

  • Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work for self and any direct reports.

  • Provides direction and assistance to other teams regarding projects. Helps determine priorities, schedules, plans and necessary resources to ensure completion of any projects on schedule.

  • Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

  • Thinks creatively and practically to develop, execute and implement new plans or programs. Generates and provides accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc.

  • Provides recommendations to improve the effectiveness of processes or programs.

Financial Management

  • Responsible for participating in budget and other financial management activities

  • Creating chargeback model for Observability platform and other solutions

Managing and Conducting Human Resources Activities

  • Interviews talent and fosters a modern engineering culture.

  • Promotes the fair and equitable treatment of employees.

  • Fosters employee commitment to providing excellent service, participates in daily stand-up meetings and models desired service behaviors in all interactions with customer and employees.

California Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $110,550.00 to $245,238.00 annually.

Colorado Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $110,550.00 to $222,943.00 annually.

Hawaii Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $133,766.00 to $245,238.00 annually.

New York Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $110,550.00 to $245,238.00 annually.

Washington Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $110,550.00 to $245,238.00 annually. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible to receive an annual bonus and restricted stock units/stock grants. Employees will accrue 0.04616 PTO balance for every hour worked and eligible to receive minimum of 7 holidays annually.
