This position directs a team of manufacturing engineers supporting a highly automated suture manufacturing process. Must provide effective management of team members to achieve desired business results and utilize excellent communication, motivation, team building, diplomacy and delegating skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Has Technical/Engineering (50%) responsibilities as well as Management/Leadership (50%) of a defined group of engineers / technical associates, providing day-to-day tactical guidance to group.

  • Plan, schedule, conduct and lead various engineering projects, ensuring all projects meet acceptable engineering practices and compliance regulations, are appropriately staffed, and are run within budget.

  • Plan and direct overall engineering activities.

  • Provide engineering advice and assistance to other departments.

  • Lead multi-functional teams to drive business and organizational results.

  • Set business metrics for the team and provide performance feedback to employees.

  • Assist with solving business and engineering problems and investigating nonconformances.

  • Provide engineering expertise and maintain a high level of proficiency and business acuity.

  • Convert data to impactful projects to produce results to improve process performance.

  • Prepare/review capital and expense forecasts and address variance issues.

  • Receive strategic mentorship from Plant Engineering Manager and keep plant management well informed of all major problems, improvement activities and potential barriers.

  • Develop staff (salary and wage), discuss, set and document goals and measure performance as part of the review process.

  • Act as mentor to associates in group and other specialists in the plant.

  • Partner directly with Business Unit Manager/Staff Manager, ensuring manufacturing operations and projects receive outstanding technical support.

  • Collaborate with other San Angelo and external functional groups to meet the facilitys goals and requirements.

  • Comply with all applicable quality management system, environmental, safety and occupational health policies. (For example, ISO 13485, ISO14001 & OSHAS18001). This includes, but is not limited to, validation documents, NCR/CAPA/Internal audit investigations, Validation Master Plan (VMP) activities and any other applicable quality system task.

Qualifications

  • 6 years of overall professional experience

  • A bachelors degree in engineering or a related technical field is required. A Master's degree or PhD in engineering preferred.

  • Experience with people management / leadership is required.

  • Experience/knowledge in the maintenance and reliability of automated equipment is preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES and AFFILIATIONS

  • The ability to collaborate with associates at all levels of the organization in a multi-functional environment required.

  • Knowledge of FDA, ISO and GMP regulatory requirements required.

  • Knowledge of quality systems (e.g. CAPA, Non-Conformance reporting) is required.

  • Experience with one or more of the following is required: programmable logic controllers (PLCs), vision systems, computer integrated manufacturing (CIM), robotics.

  • Ability to make effective management-level presentations and write formal reports dealing with technical and business implications is required.

  • Medical device or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.

  • Ethylene oxide sterilization knowledge and/or experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of operational equipment effectiveness (OEE) preferred.

  • Experience with high-speed automation / assembly equipment preferred.

  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis tools (e.g. Minitab) preferred.

  • Knowledge of BSI (European) regulatory requirements preferred.

  • Process Excellence/Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) certification preferred.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing preferred.
