The Associate Scientist will join the Heme/Immuno Toxicology (HIT) team within Predictive and Investigative Translational Toxicology (PITT) at Janssen with a focus on providing cell-based assay and flow cytometry support for multiple projects in the Janssen portfolio. The Associate Scientist will work closely with functional-area colleagues to help advance programs through the drug-development pipeline. S/he will be lab-based and with minimal direction, design, conduct, and coordinate experiments to resolve mechanisms of toxicity and/or unexpected findings involving cells of the immune/heme system. S/he will generate, analyze, and summarize data, and present results to various teams.
The position is within a high-functioning team environment, and requires a collaborative spirit, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to interact optimally with people, internally and externally is required. The Associate Scientist will contribute to various projects outside of her/his own, collaborate with partners from relevant functions, and have an interest in learning new techniques.
B.S. degree in cell biology, immunology, pathology, biochemistry, or related field with 4-8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry OR M.S. degree in cell biology, immunology, pathology, biochemistry, or related field with 3-5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
Strong background in tissue culture experience, especially with primary heme and immune cells, and/or tumor cell lines is required.
Experience with immune cell isolation from blood and tissues, cell-based assays, ELISA/MSD, Luminex, and flow-cytometry is required.
Experience with stem cells and progenitor assays is preferred.
Experience using flow cytometry panels for immunophenotyping immune cells (blood and bone marrow), from different species is preferred.
Experience applying flow-cytometry based methods for intra-cellular signaling (i.e. phospho ERK, STAT5), intra-cellular cytokines, and cell cycle/apoptosis assays is preferred.
Intellectually and scientifically curious and demonstrate an ability to learn innovative approaches in the field of cytometry (sorting, Cytof) is preferred.
Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills: meticulous documentation is required (Electronic Lab Notebook).
Experience with analysis software (FlowJo v10.5 or greater, SoftMax Pro, GraphPad Prism v6.02 or greater) is preferred.
