Abbott is currently looking for an Innovative Bioinformatician who can effectively lead a team of bioinformaticians in building the infrastructure and tools needed to optimize and accelerate molecular and immunoassay diagnostic assay design and development efforts as well as develop and automate pipelines for data analysis to drive continuous improvement efforts ultimately enabling commercialization of robust diagnostic tests. Job Responsibilities

  • The individual is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of bioinformatics strategies, structure and tools

  • Lead a team of bioinformaticians, driving teamwork, innovation, on-time delivery, and individual career development

  • Develop and maintain bioinformatics strategies that enable goals of organization to be met

  • Oversee the development of pipelines, workflows and tools to enable rapid and robust data analysis

  • Develop tools to further the understanding and characterization of, and accelerate the development of, nucleic acid amplification technologies and immunoassay technologies

  • Apply advanced data analytics and machine learning concepts to provide robust analyses, understanding of and interpretation of large biological data sets

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, providing computational tools and resources for analysis of biological data sets

  • Drive best practice, and continuous improvement of bioinformatics and data analysis tools and methods

  • Provide written reports, technical documentation and/or oral presentations to internal and external users

  • Deliver high-quality bioinformatics results, by implementing rigorous quality control and validation methodologies

Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or related field

  • Minimum ten years of full-time experience in an industrial setting

  • Extensive knowledge of bioinformatics methodologies and tools commonly implemented for the analysis of biological data sets

  • Strong core in genomics, molecular biology, diagnostics and/or related fields, with proven track record in translating complex biological questions into computational tools that solve problems

  • Extensive experience building high-throughput data analysis tools and workflows

  • Demonstrated expertise in the design and implementation of computational pipelines for data analysis, integration, and visualization

  • Expertise in the building tools and workflows for the design and optimization of nucleic acid amplification assays, and immunoassays

  • Diverse knowledge of and expertise in standard bioinformatics tools (sequence analysis, sequence alignment, visualization, structure prediction and modeling), programming languages (R, Python, Perl, etc.), platforms (AWS, Azure, JupyterHub, RStudio, etc.) and databases (BLAST, GenBank, GISAID)

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting capabilities

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively

  • Experience working under Regulatory compliance and Design control (FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and 21 CFR Part 820)

The base pay for this position is $164,900.00 – $329,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
