A 15% salary uplift is provided on top of base salary for positions that are worked in New York City or San Francisco, which is subject to change depending on market conditions.) .

Position Summary

The Senior Principal Hydraulic & Hydrologic (H&H) Engineer will support engineering design and studies in the hydraulics and hydrology areas for projects executed by all Global Business Units (GBUs) in Bechtel. This position will be part of the Geotechnical & Hydraulic Engineering Services (G&HES) group. The successful candidate will report to and receive technical and administrative direction from the H&H Subdiscipline Manager. The position requires extensive practical experience in hydrologic analysis, and the ability to serve in an advisory role to the H&H group based on sound engineering judgment in problem definition, and evaluation and adaptation of engineering principles and techniques. Technical guidance will be required on a wide variety of H&H analyses to support engineering design, hazard assessments, and impact evaluations. Academic background and practical experience in surface water hydrology and hydraulics, and flooding protection design including precipitation analysis, rainfall-runoff processes, and water resource assessment is central to this position.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Civil Engineering with graduate level coursework and research on hydraulics, hydrology, or coastal engineering.

  • 30 years of relevant experience in the above technical fields, including 25 years working as a supervisor and technical lead on hydraulics and hydrology projects.

  • Working experience with computer applications such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM or equivalent.

  • Working experience on probable maximum precipitation (PMP) and probable maximum flood (PMF) analyses.

  • Working experience supporting nuclear power, mining, oil and gas, large infrastructure and hydro power projects.

  • Knowledge of U.S. and international design codes and practices.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate with team in preparation of reports, memo, calculations, and permit applications.

  • Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet.

  • Right to work and remain in the U.S. without sponsorship.
