The U.S. Banking Controllership team within American Express is responsible for overseeing and managing the accounting activities primarily for American Express National Bank (“AENB”) – an entity which comprises a significant portion of the American Express business. Broadly, the Controllership team ensures the integrity of the Bank’s financial results in accordance with U.S. GAAP, provides an effective control environment over financial reporting, works to eliminate controllable financial risk, and supports growth in the business while balancing control and compliance. We work extensively with other Finance colleagues and subject matter experts, U.S. Banking teams and leaders, business partners, General Counsel’s Office, and various regulatory agencies (i.e. FRB and OCC), among others. The team is committed to excellence, talent development, encouraging work/life balance, and timely recognition of team members.

How will you make an impact in this role ?

  • Ensure completion of journal entries and month-end close activities for American Express US bank.

  • Participate in account reconciliation research and clearance processes for products issued by American Express US bank

  • Assist in producing and reviewing monthly and quarterly financial reports, as well as annual financial statements for the American Express US bank

  • Perform variance analysis and analytical procedures for assigned general ledger accounts.

  • Drive process change and process improvements.

  • Participate in other initiatives and projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in accounting, finance or related discipline. Masters degree preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting.

  • Understanding of and experience with general ledger, inter-company accounting, and consolidated reporting.

  • General understanding of finance/accounting/financial analysis and reporting.

  • Ability to manage time well, be a self-starter, strong work ethic, and strong leadership skills.

  • Excellent analytical abilities, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of operations and senior management.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong spreadsheet skills preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in public accounting and/or financial services

  • Advanced Excel skills preferred

  • MBA or Master of Accounting degree preferred.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually bonus benefits
