Caterpillar is Manufacturing Engineering Manager in Sanford, NC This is a factory-based support role that works closely with engineering, operations, and the machine integration team to create and maintain the factory calibration & test processes that ensures machine performance objectives are achieved.

What you can look forward to in this role:

  • Coordinating the development, implementation, and continual improvement of software, hardware, and infrastructure for calibration and test processes that support product strategy

  • Supervising 3-4 individual contributors, overseeing programs for hiring, performance management and developing/training the personnel that support and maintain the calibration and test processes

  • Ensuring use of modern technology and verifying the effectiveness of equipment and systems

  • Collaborating with cross functional stakeholders to analyze internal and external data to identify areas of process improvement

  • Leading development, cost comparisons, systems planning, layouts, standards, releasing, gaging and checking equipment, tooling and work standards

A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills in:

  • Capacity Planning & Management - MFG: Knowledge of tools, approaches and practices for determining production demand and ability to manage resources needed to provide satisfactory levels of service.

  • Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.

  • Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.

  • Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

  • Judgment and Decision Making: Ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.

Top Candidates for this position may also have:

  • A degree in an Engineering discipline, Computer Science

  • Familiarity with electro-hydraulic machine systems and components

  • Ability to design and follow electrical/mechanical schematics

  • Ability to use software tools to coordinate schedules and resources

  • Prior experience with hardware and software used to calibrate and test electro-hydraulic systems

  • Prior supervisory experience

  • Demonstrated experience designing and deploying control panels

  • Demonstrated experience designing and deploying complex testing equipment

  • Demonstrated experience with National Instruments equipment

  • Demonstrated knowledge of CAN, J1939

  • Strong experience with Python, C, C++, LabVIEW

  • Agile development experience (Sprints, Scrums, etc.)

  • Experience using MS Access or SQL Server to store, retrieve, and analyze large data sets

  • Experience developing test plans and implementing them

  • Experience using Gage R&R to increase quality

  • Demonstrated experience in a high velocity manufacturing environment

The primary location for this position is Sanford, NC.

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
