WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Associate Mechanical Engineer within Abbott Hematology is a critical member of the new product development organization and contributes to new feature development, system reliability and performance improvement project.
The mechanical engineer completes professional level engineering assignments related to a specific field or discipline. Participates in projects involving the Design, development, validation, and manufacture of complex instrument subassemblies, systems or processes. Responsibilities also include implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
Develops models of mechanical systems and engineering drawings within SolidWorks.
Reviews, generates, and approves related inputs such as drawings and specifications.
Coordinates with technical support personnel to conduct prototype or experimental runs of products or processes.
Completes tasks within an outline with suggestions for methods of approach and procedures to follow.
Provides input to the product teams regarding the development of new designs, methods or processes.
Reviews literature, patents, and current practices relevant to the solution of current problems.
Participates as part of product design team.
Exchanges information with product team members, designers and techs, and other engineering personnel.
Delivers recommendations and suggestions to other product team members.
Defines Problems/ Recommends Solutions: Applies standard theoretical models and leading-edge methodologies to interpret, draw conclusions, and recommend options, reviews literature and patents., Creates/ Modifies Designs for Basic Problems: Creates or modifies basic designs and supporting documentation based on design requirements.
Plans Activity Structure: Makes plans, executes and revises as needed to accomplish assigned individual tasks to meet expectations (cost, quality, time).
Performs Assessments & Executes Test Protocols: Establishes and reviews protocol requirements and determines validity of the test with guidance and review from senior engineers.
Exchanges Information: Exchanges information with appropriate frequency and within a time frame to maximize its utility and promote cross functional collaboration, verifies that information is understood by the recipient.
Operates under close supervision.
Opportunity for independent action is limited by structure provided for tasks.
Reviews, generates, and approves related inputs such as drawings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, science or closely related discipline or sufficient practical and transferable experience to demonstrate functional equivalence to a degree.
0 - 2 years relevant experience.
Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics.

Demonstrated excellence in SolidWorks modeling
Strong problem solving skills for the purpose of product development
Experience and understanding of reliability of complex systems
Knowledge of biomedical devices / technologies
A passion for learning an drive to master new technologies
A degree in engineering
