Position Summary

The On-Site Service Engineer provides frontline support by resolving robotic system issues utilizing technical expertise and troubleshooting. The On-Site Service Engineer installs, services, maintains and modifies Ethicon Surgical Robotic platforms at our internal sites, primarily in an R&D, manufacturing and Quality environment. The On-Site Service Engineer uses critical thinking to resolve issues within defined procedures and practices to identify the appropriate action to rapidly repair equipment. The On-Site Service Engineer operates independently within their defined support and product areas. Ethicon offers a team-based environment with opportunities to benchmark, mentor and receive expert technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform service, preventative maintenance, modifications and installations of Ethicon robotic products within J&J MedTech facilities with minimal direction.

  • Provide on-site repairs; responsible for delivering both timely and effective repairs.

  • Provide adequate support to operators to ensure optimal system performance, resulting in customer satisfaction.

  • Work closely and collaboratively with fellow Ethicon team members, including R&D engineers, Quality systems representatives, manufacturing teams, the Service repair center engineers, Service Repair center technicians, and Technical Training to ensure team objectives are met.

  • Cross train and/or provide on the job training of new and existing team members as directed.

  • Responsible for completing assignments as directed by the on-site service manager to complete day-to-day on-site service calls and provide systems support.

  • Perform necessary administrative duties accurately.

  • Keeps accurate records of service calls, maintains inventory of service parts, tools, and test equipment.

  • Job will generally be performed within J&J MedTech facilities.

  • Sited may have exposure to hazardous materials, waste, airborne particles and allergens.

  • Days and hours of work are flexible Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of a Vocational, Certificate, Technical or Associate Degree in a technical or scientific discipline is required.

  • A minimum of 4 years experience working in a service environment is required.

  • Self-starter with strong customer service skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrate excellent judgment in customer relations and in handling company resources.

  • Willingness to work different shifts as business needs dictate.

  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation after training and certification is completed.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Preferred:

  • Bachelors Degree in an Engineering field.

  • Advanced Technical Degree.

  • Biomedical technician experience.

  • Prior experience resolving problems related to capital equipment including surgical robotic equipment or related medical diagnostic equipment is preferred.

  • Experience working in a regulated environment in compliance to ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820.

  • Prior experience delivering technical support and servicing medical devices.

  • Prior experience entering command lines, troubleshooting utilizing SW/FW command line.

  • Prior experience with Ubuntu and/or Linux.

  • System log file interpretation.

  • Prior field service supporting complex systems at the system level.

  • Troubleshoot at the system level.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $89,000 to $140,185.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporations performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Companys discretion on an individual basis.

  • Vacation up to 120 hours per calendar year.

  • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington up to 56 hours per calendar year.

  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays up to 13 days per calendar year.

  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year.
