Utilities Reliability Engineer - Southport, NC

This is a full-time, exempt position.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for improving the reliability of the Utilities department and supporting Performance Excellence activities. This position is also responsible for process improvements of the Utilities equipment at the manufacturing facility through direct contributions of project development from conception through start-up. The role assists the Utilities Superintendent in day to day operations, tracking and understanding department costs, yields, quality, and process performance. This position will support the Utilities Superintendent in areas of daily and weekly scheduling, coordination of training, as well as updating standard operating procedures as needed. This position will work with contractor management for the completion of projects within the department.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Development of an overall reliability program for the Utilities department equipment including PM development, equipment inspection and refurbishment.

  • Oversight of specific processes that may include projects. Project management may require purchasing of materials and supplies, equipment installation, budget tracking, employee training, and startup of projects.

  • Lead plant operations to maintain personnel and process safety.

  • Recommendations for improvements to company facilities, equipment, and safety programs.

  • Interacts directly with Utilities Superintendent to produce desired operational results and employee development.

  • Project design, development and management that are specific to the Utilities department.

  • Utilities cost tracking.

  • Provide feedback, mentorship and support to operators and other engineers to achieve short term and long-term department performance through use of KPI’s, continuous improvement, and Performance Excellence concepts

Job Requirements:

  • B.S. in Engineering or equivalent experience preferred

  • Greater than 5 years of plant operations experience preferred

  • Experience with compressed air, boilers, and/or chillers preferred

  • Experience with 480V to 13.2kV equipment preferred

  • Project management experience / background is preferred.

  • Strong Dedication to Safety

  • Proven leadership

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to lead personnel and work closely with Corporate departments

  • Ability to look beyond the task at hand, to anticipate challenges and develop options to overcome them

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

  • Able to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work day.

  • Able to move about to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting. May also require periods of prolonged sitting or standing.

  • Requires a full range of physical motion to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights on ladders or scaffolding.
