This is a Scientist level position within the High Throughput Screening team in the Biologics Discovery (BD). This group is responsible for discovering and characterizing lead candidates for large molecule biotherapeutic drug development across all therapeutic areas of J&J.

This position supports Biologics Discovery through the collaborative development of cellular and biochemical assays and subsequent screening of therapeutics. The successful candidate will possess knowledge of and experience with large molecule development and screening technologies. The position also requires analysis of the data generated, interpretation of the results, preparation of reports, and effective communication of results to multiple project teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Biologics Discovery and Therapeutic Area groups to develop and optimize high throughput assays for screening of antibodies and other large molecules.

  • Design and implement screening cascades for therapeutic programs that result in the accomplishment of team goals for identifying antibodies/proteins meeting the program’s requirements.

  • Act as an individual contributor on therapeutic projects and process improvement.

  • Coordinate with internal groups of scientists responsible for screening activities for binding and functional activity on panels of antibodies generated both internally and externally.

  • Prepare scientific presentations, documents for regulatory filing, and patents.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Pharmacology, Immunology or a related field with a minimum of 10 years of experience is required or

  • Master degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Pharmacology, Immunology or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of experience is required or

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Pharmacology, Immunology or a related field with a minimum of 1 year of experience is required.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Expertise in cell and protein binding assay development against diverse targets, using multiple detection modalities (Flow cytometry, MSD, alphaLISA) is required.

  • Ability to work in a highly coordinated environment, prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously is required.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with clear communication skills to build positive relationships with project teams is required.

  • Proficiency in analysis of assay readouts and statistical analysis is required.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the therapeutic antibody discovery process in an industry or academic setting is preferred.

  • Experience in developing target-specific functional assays (neutralization/blocking assays, characterization of signalization pathways modulation, agonist/antagonist assays, quantification of enzymatic activity) is preferred.

  • Proficiency in applying automation to screening campaigns is preferred.
