Role Profile

The Environmental Specialist is primarily responsible for site air quality environmental programs including, but not limited to, air permitting, compliance and emissions reporting as well as LDAR compliance. The Environmental Engineer will also provide general plant environmental support, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Actively promote & drive the corporate vision of a Zero Incident Culture through fostering a Zero Incident Mindset, particularly regarding air quality environmental compliance.

  • Manage air quality compliance policies, procedures, programs and databases consistent with Federal, State and Company requirements

  • Responsible for project permitting efforts, permit amendments and renewals as required by the regulations.

  • Manage compliance activities related to the site’s Title V Operating Permit and other regulatory air compliance requirements.

  • Ownership of the site’s LDAR program including leading internal audits, completing required regulatory reports and compliance certificates as well as managing contracts and services of 3rd party vendors, as needed

  • Prepare and issue reports to regulatory agencies, corporate management and site leadership.

  • Act as a site liaison for State and Federal Environmental Regulatory Agencies, corporate, industry, and civic organizations.

  • Perform analyses and applicability determinations for new air quality regulations and work with operations and maintenance to develop the appropriate compliance processes.

  • Execute environmental-related training curriculum development and presentations associated with company policies, regulatory requirements, new employee orientations, routine training and crew huddles

  • Drive the Responsible Care 14001® HSES management system through environmental aspects and impacts, planning, metrics, and management review.

  • Provide support to various environmental programs including but not limited to Hazardous Waste (RCRA), Universal Waste, Solid Waste, Wastewater (IPP), Stormwater (SWPPP) and Non-Contact Cooling Water (NPDES)

  • Maintain TURA Plans and provide updates to regulatory agencies as required

  • Provide leadership to HSES team meetings and/or auxiliary projects.

  • Respond to corporate HSES requests as necessary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years’ experience in the area of environmental regulations, particularly Title V air permits, is required as well as an understanding of chemical plant operations.

  • Working knowledge of P&ID’s

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong technical / analytical skills, the ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities and the ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere

  • Strong initiative, focus and follow-through skills

  • Strong computer skills in standard office software programs

  • Effective organization and planning skills

  • Ability to adapt to different cultural environments
