Short Description

The Saflex Pilot Plant is currently seeking a Pilot Plant Technician for our Springfield, MA location.

As a technician, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic team, performing a wide range of polymer processing operations, including extrusion, lamination, sample analysis, and related tasks. You will collaborate closely with your team members to uphold this commitment and foster a culture of safety.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include executing regular tasks such as raw materials transfer, extrusion line setup and control, polymer sheet handling, and data collection. You will also contribute to mechanical installations for routine & non-routine processes and conduct quality control testing of extruded sheets. Familiarity with extrusion and process control systems, as well as experience with extruder setup, are preferred qualifications. Additionally, you should have the ability to read and understand process flow diagrams, review mechanical drawings, and work with machinery in a pilot plant atmosphere. Strong organizational skills, clear communication, and proficiency in standard software packages are essential. Qualifications

  • Associates degree in a Technical Field or Technical Diploma preferred.

  • College level course work in math, engineering, or mechanical/electrical trade school is preferred.

  • Prior hands-on experience with extruder setup including heaters, thermocouples and instrumentation is preferred.

  • Familiarity with extrusion and process control systems (digital control systems; DCS) is preferred.

  • Familiarity with Quality systems, for example ISO, is preferred.

  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow process flow diagrams, operating procedures, run plan instruction, process control flow charts and quality control lab procedures.

  • Must be able to review mechanical drawings including piping and instrumentation, conduct equipment and safety reviews and support quality improvement projects.

  • Ability to work with machinery in a pilot plant atmosphere.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Flexibility to work overtime and/or second shift as needed to meet project timing and requirements is desirable.

  • Must be able to lift materials up to 40 lbs. and be on one’s feet for ten-hour periods.

  • Strong commitment to task and ability to organize, prioritize, and execute assignments in a high activity environment.

  • Clear and effective written and oral communication.

  • Demonstrated computer experience with standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
