The Opportunity
This position works out of our St Paul, MN location in the Electrophysiology Medical Device Division. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
This position is responsible for the actions to plan, direct, and monitor all purchasing activities so that the goods, materials, supplies, and services the organization buys meet its standards of price, quality, timing, and reliability of supply.
What You'll Work On
Procurement Excellence: Driving strategic behavior vs tactical current state.
Influence the Procurement Department: Responsible for all personnel planning, performance management, and the departmental operating budget. This includes training and development of the Purchasing staff.
Ensure Supply Efficiently: Lead purchasing team to plan and schedule purchase orders and deliveries to optimize inventories in support of production schedules. Work with suppliers to maintain adequate inventory levels to minimize shortages of raw materials. Execute periodic inventory reviews using safety stock setting methodology to ensure active management of raw materials inventory to balance risk and working capital. Ensure system accuracy within the Abbott ERP.
Financial Improvement: Positively impact purchase price variance (PPV) metrics to ensure continuous improvement on raw materials pricing and to support year over year standard cost reduction.
Change Management: Establish procedures and manage the processing of change orders and appropriate communications with vendors regarding material and quantity requirement revisions, rate adjustments, and incorrect materials.
Quality & Compliance: Identify and approve suppliers and establish purchasing protocol and procedures to ensure purchases meet quality and design specifications and are cost competitive. Work with the QA department to establish supplier audit procedures and track their performance. Manage the entire purchasing record keeping process including PO generation and verification of invoices against POs. Establish procedures for and manage the return of damaged goods, replacement items, or credit arrangements. Arrange for vendor corrective action and work with supplier to improve quality.
New Product Introduction: Work with the Engineering department to establish new material design specifications and select appropriate suppliers.
Strategic Sourcing: Ensure strategic analysis is completed for suppliers that Abbott does business with to minimize risk, cost, and ease of business. Work closely with suppliers, legal, operations, planning, and divisional and corporate procurement groups to design and execute strategies concerning purchased materials.
Drive One Abbott Culture: Support all Divisional initiatives as identified by divisional management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
5+ years in procurement function. Medical device industry experience a plus.
Experience negotiating with external suppliers to achieve contract agreements required
Preferre d Qualifications
3+ years’ experience in managing procurement department professional staff preferred.
MRP system experience (ex. SAP) preferred

The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 – $218,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
