Duke Energy Engineer Technologist I - DCS Specialist in St. Petersburg, Florida

Florida regulated solar is rapidly expanding. As such, we have a need for a qualified individual to fill our Solar DCS/SCADA System Owner position. This position will report to the Manager of FL Regulated SOlar and will have responsibility for managing and maintaining the SCADA systems at the station to meet station objectives for availability, reliability and financial commitment.

Position is eligible for supplemental compensation per the exempt pay policy applicable for Fossil Hydro Operations Florida (FHOF). Travel will be required as the solar sites are situated around the state when local support is needed, average travel will be approximately 10% all within the Florida region. The DCS Engineer has clear accountability for assigned systems, including: Data Review & Trend Monitoring – PdM and PI trend reviews, etc. Reviewing / Tracking System Efficiency / Performance. Technical Troubleshooting / Emergent Support. Event Follow-up / Root Cause Analysis. Development of the Maintenance Strategy for Assigned Systems (PMs, Replacement / Upgrade, Spare Parts, Reliability Improvement Plans). Performance Reporting.

The Engineering Technologist I position is the first level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support. An Engineering Technologist I apply developing technical expertise to solve simple problems and management skills to provide oversight of work in a specific area of developing expertise, with close supervision. An Engineering Technologist I is expected to develop skills and ability in their field of study and work with some degree of independence.

The candidate may be located close to either Crystal River, FL, or St Petersburg, FL

Basic Requirements

Associates degree in Engineering Technology

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the utility industry.

  • Understanding of basic principles of project management.

    Working Conditions

  • Performs work in an office and power plant environment.

  • Required to observe and direct work in all areas of generation facilities which are power plant, utility environments operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

  • Exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and humidity.

  • May be exposed to high stress situations.

  • Required to be available for emergency response as needed.

  • The DCS Engineer shall be available for Operations to call as necessary during nights and weekends should technical problems arise with assigned systems.

  • It is recommended that an up-to-date resume reflecting work experience and job skills applicable to the position be attached when applying.

    Specific Requirements
  • To meet basic qualifications a candidate must have either Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 4+ years equivalent industry experience without a degree.

    Desired Qualifications

  • Current or former experience working in a position as a DCS Engineer

    • Experience with DCS Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) • Thorough knowledge of DCS Systems, specifically Emerson Ovation Knowledge of PLC/Allen Bradley systems

    • Previous maintenance and operational experience in a combined cycle plant

    • Previous engineering experience with solar sites.
