Oracle Opower Data Platform | Big Data Engineer in Stamford, Connecticut
Analyze, design develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for commercial or end user applications. Writes code, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications.
As a member of the software engineering division, you will perform high-level design based on provided external specifications. Specify, design and implement minor changes to existing software architecture. Build highly complex enhancements and resolve complex bugs. Build and execute unit tests and unit plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering as necessary to discuss minor changes to product functionality and to ensure quality and consistency across specific products.
Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
This is a remote/office based position which may be performed anywhere in the United States except for within the state of Colorado.

The Data Platform group at Oracle Utilities is a cross-functional team of application developers, big data engineers, data platform ops engineers and data scientists, who ingest and analyze billions of utility data reads monthly.
As a big data engineer (Data Science Engineering), you will work in an agile development environment to learn and collaborate with other engineers on building, maintaining and supporting batch and stream data processing pipelines
You will help us build next generation of pipelines making cutting edge data science insights available to millions of consumers
Tech stack based in Hadoop, Spark, Java, and Python
Requirements
Must-haves:
4 years of experience in Java, Python or Ruby
Excellent CS and problem-solving fundamentals
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
Nice-to-haves:
Experience building reliable pipelines for terabyte scale datasets
Hands-on experience or deep theoretical knowledge of data processing frameworks internals such as Spark and MapReduce
Understanding monitoring and alerting best practices for distributed applications
Track record of solving complex problems independently as well as in collaboration with others
Working knowledge of Unix, version control system such as git
Comfortable user of relational databases such as MySQL
Experience with one or more testing frameworks
