We are a community of engineers looking for an enthusiastic Aeronautical Engineer to join our tight-knit group. The Fleet Ballistic Missiles Common Missile Compartment (FBM CMC) is one of Lockheed Martin’s premier Lines of Businesses that prioritizes partnership, integrity, and reliability.

The successful candidate will work as an Aeronautical Engineer with the FBM CMC Flight Sciences Engineering team, supporting the Aero-Fluids-Performance group with modeling and simulation of missile flight hardware. You will generally work with a small team, modeling the missile launch gas dynamics with respect to the next generation submarines.

As an Aeronautical Engineer, you will:

• Have an understanding of a variety of fluid flow phenomena including compressibility, turbulence, hydrodynamics

• Use various modeling & simulation methods and techniques to perform high fidelity analyses related to:

o Missile launch vehicle systems

o Stowage, testing, and flight environments

o Hydrodynamics phenomenology

• Provide recommendations to data packages to support peer and customer reviews

Basic Qualifications:

• Knowledgeable in some or all of the following:

o Aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, computer programming, computational fluid dynamics

• Strong mathematical & analytical skills

• Able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance; U.S. Citizenship is required

Desired Skills:

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including MS Office proficiency

• Master’s degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering

• Strong education/experience in some/all of the following: aerodynamics, gas dynamics, turbulence, grid generation, computational fluid dynamics

• Experience using the following software packages: Ansys Fluent, STAR-CCM+, Pointwise, Tecplot360 or other CFD, grid generation, and post-processing software

• Experience in one or more of the following programming languages: C/C++, MATLAB, Fortran

• Experience in data processing

• Experience with testing & instrumentation

• Linux / High Performance Computing experience

• Active Secret or Top Secret clearance

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off

Pay Rate:

The annual base salary range for this position in California or New York City is $77,600 - $146,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
