This position will be a key member of the American Express Global Commercial Services (GCS) Line of Business Compliance Team (LOBCO) and will provide second line oversight to the GCS Business to Business Payments Automation, APIs product and marketing teams, as well as other digital payment’s offerings.

Responsibilities include providing regulatory guidance and oversight of the business on initiatives and product workstreams, as well as supporting the Compliance Program activities. The Compliance Officer will be a key contact for the GCS business when leading multiple projects, acting independently and making decisions representing the LOBCO team during interactions with GCS and other stakeholders.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Employ a risk-based approach to ongoing monitoring that ensures the businesses have appropriate processes and controls in place to mitigate regulatory risk and sustainable compliance with internal policies and standards.

  • Collaborate with Business, General Counsel’s Office and Operational Excellence colleagues in reviewing new and existing partner and/or vendor services, as needed.

  • Drive implementation of policy and regulatory requirements in the areas of Business to Business Payments including licensing, outsourcing and vendor management oversight, consumer practices, banking, privacy and other relevant federal, state and local regulations throughout product development lifecycle includingmarketing and fulfillment.

  • Review new and/or enhanced products and services as part of the New Product Approval process to assess compliance risks and ensure adherence with regulatory requirements.

  • Provide compliance guidance and support when the Business is developing new product claims and disclosures for marketing and advertising material in partnership with GCO, Adlaw and Marketing Compliance Review partners.

  • Ensure appropriate coordination with the global compliance program, enterprise-wide policies and programs, and regulatory requirements.

  • Effectively manage the Issue Management and Corrective Action process and policy to ensure timely closure of gaps and customer remediation where required.

  • Participate in the Compliance Risk Assessment process to ensure that all applicable laws and regulations are mapped to applicable business processes.

  • Collaborate with the business and, as required, with relevant partners, including but not limited to: Internal Audit, Internal Independent Compliance Testing team, General Counsel’s Office, Operational Excellence, and Privacy Office.

  • Assist in development and enhancement of regulatory business self-testing associated with product features and benefits.

  • Providing regular status reporting for sharing with compliance leadership and stakeholders on a regular basis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 5- 7 years of experience in Compliance or related activities, preferably within the financial services and banking industry.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Self-motivated, energetic teammate with strong relationship management skills when engaging with colleagues and business leaders.

  • Experience of managing multiple priorities in a fast paced, constantly changing environment - must have the ability to work to tight deadlines and able consider the ‘big picture’ when supporting strategic planning activities.

  • Ability to learn and understand complex legal and regulatory concepts and convert them into relevant, practical business requirements and compliance solutions.

  • Strong subject matter knowledge of the Compliance Risk Management Program and in-depth knowledge and understanding of compliance risk management practices and methodologies, applicable AXP policies and procedures, including risk and control assessments.

  • Knowledge and understanding of American Express’ core business offerings, APIs, spend management and accounting systems, accounts payable and/or accounts receivable processes as well as the benefits of digital tools in the business to business marketplace is a plus.

  • Professional maturity with proven ability to build rapport, garner respect and appropriately exercise authority in a collaborative environment.

  • Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

Qualifications

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
