This manager will assist in establishing and maintaining the Data Strategy & Governance for Global Services (GSDSG), oversee the data governance aspects of GS systems and feeds, business and process analyses, and related new initiatives. This manager will help to organize and facilitate the cross-functional Data Governance Council, rationalize the data collected for input to SFDC and ININ, and partner to ensure premium quality of data.

Responsibilities include:

  • Have thorough knowledge of the data elements from HR, Payroll and Procurement that are sent via interfaces to SFDC as well as associated business processes

  • Obtain a clear understanding of the data strategy and governance model used by each GS function

  • Working with Functional Data Owners and JJT, help to define a cross-functional data ecosystem that creates the foundational data platform required to maximize service experience capabilities

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining the GS Data Council that will bring together cross-functional data custodians to implement end to end data governance

  • Represent Global Services and the Service Experience team on functional councils as needed to enable efficient, integrated, end-to-end management & delivery of high quality data through leading-edge data architectures

  • Benchmark within J&J and externally to explore leading practices on data strategy and governance

  • Ensure compliance with J&J’s policies, procedures, methodologies, standards, templates, etc.

  • Review and report the status of projects to the GS Data Council, the Service Excellence team and/or the GS Leadership Team

Maintain the DG issue management function:

  • Develop and maintain process, tools and techniques to log all data governance issues and change requests as needed

  • Produce management information and reports on the status of all DG issues and requests

  • Provide guidance to and assist during DG issues resolution

  • Ensure alignment between the business systems, business processes, and business partners

  • Manage the improvement and change of DG processes through small enhancements

  • Manage change and operational support for the DG systems

Manage Data Strategy and Governance operations:

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders who are similarly responsible for data strategy and governance

  • Coordinate data governance activities for enterprise functions, e.g. Human Resources, Finance, and Procurement

  • Support processes to help ensure full compliance to all data regulations and requirements

  • Develop clear chartering and stakeholder management across GS functions

  • Ownership and responsibility for maintenance of lexicon of data terminology

  • Oversight for the application of data rules and definitions

  • Coordinate data governance activities for enterprise functions, e.g. Human Resources, Finance, and Procurement


  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required

  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience is required.

  • Experience in data governance/master data management or a Global Services Function (Human Resources, Finance, or Procurement) is required.

  • Shared service experience preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and other statistical software preferred

  • Advanced database skills (i.e. Access, Oracle, and SQL Server) preferred.

  • Ability to translate findings into clear and concise documents and presentations.

  • Demonstrate significant analytical and problem solving skills. Attention to detail a must.

  • Experience partnering with cross functional stakeholders required

  • Global experience preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate with customers, peers, and vendors.

  • Comfortable in handling ambiguity and fluid situations, demonstrating a pragmatic approach

  • Experience working collaboratively to facilitate the delivery of support in numerous locations.

  • Experience of successfully managing multiple priorities & projects through successful delivery & implementation

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact skillfully and confidently with internal stakeholders and colleagues to develop ideas, identify opportunities, and influence outcomes.

  • Must have a competent understanding of the importance of accurate, complete, and compliant employment and organizational data.

  • Knowledge of standard business practices and professionalism are essential.

  • Ability to work in a team based environment as a model of customer service, teamwork, and leadership
