Job Summary/Purpose

Role is to provide operational and technical expertise to the remote control and monitoring of Power Generation Facilities from the Remote-Operations Control Center (ROCC) in Texas. During the build-out of the ROCC, this role will perform Project Management activities working with Entergy's IT/IS delivery teams, project leads, development teams, solution architects, and business subject matter experts (SME) to capture, clarify, and translate business requirements into documentation and conceptual design (using appropriate tools and models) from which applications and solutions are developed. This position is also responsible for supporting leadership, providing operational support, enhancement, maintenance, for a defined set of Entergy software applications and future controls optimizer enhancements supporting the SMART Operations organization and the generation fleet.

Job Duties related to Project Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and document IT projects related to the ROCC.

  • Provide direction to project team members and resolve or escalate issues that affect ROCC related IT/IS projects.

  • Lead ROCC project team to establish leading operational indicators and proactive requirements that deliver customer value and positive business outcomes; execute projects is accordance with applicable corporate standards, guidelines, policies, and processes; adhere to all reporting and submission deadlines, including monthly financial cost analysis and project status report.

  • Partner with IT to define project organization structure required for the ROCC projects and identify technical resources required to achieve project goals; work with appropriate Entergy management and/or vendor partner for assignment of resources to the project team; prepare and manage vendor contracts and change orders, approve vendor invoices.

  • Manage the integration of vendor tasks; track and review vendor deliverables (associated with the ROCC projects as applicable).

Job Duties related to Plant Operations & Performance Monitoring

  • Responsible for developing control function enhancements to existing process control systems for efficiency gains and automation of operator tasks, utilizing knowledge of power plant DCS, control logic and control philosophy.

  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of Smart Operations Center needs and maintain context for improving business and IT alignment. Maintain awareness of business objectives. Keep abreast of industry trends and innovations in technology.

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new processes or technology in support of Power Generation key initiatives, such as fuel efficiency, enhanced monitoring, and remote unit operation.

  • Work with reliability analysts/engineers to develop and optimize the process to quantify avoided costs.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Education required of the position:

  • High School graduate. Demonstrated SME in power plant operations, power plant systems, power plant performance and analytics.

  • Preferred: Advanced technical certification or technical/engineering degree.

Minimum Experience required of the position:

  • Candidate needs to have at least 10+ years of operations experience in drum type, supercritical, or CCGT fossil fueled power plants.

  • Preferred:

  • Candidate should be recognized system wide as a SME of power plant operations.

  • Candidate should be familiar with IT processes, have a controls background and project management experience.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of power plant operating and maintenance practices, equipment maintenance strategies, and other safety procedures.

  • Advanced knowledge of power plant DCS, control logic and control philosophy.

  • Demonstrated ability to actively engage other plant personnel to strive for operational excellence.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to address complex problems using creative solutions quickly and accurately.

  • Advise and be a mentor to Power Generation leadership and plant personnel on plant performance (thermal, renewable, physical, operational, and environmental).

  • Advise and be a mentor to support Fleet Engineering and plants on equipment health related to condition-based maintenance programs and technology applications.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills necessary to develop relationships with the customer, Plant Support, and Operations personnel that promote an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect.

  • Proficient analytical skills that provide decision making support to improvements in unit equipment and operations, as well as identification of instrumentation issues.

  • Strong computer skills, including programming and development of corporate computer tools such as PI-DataLink, AF and Vision, and standard computer programs for analysis and problem solving.

  • Ability to adapt to a changing and dynamic work environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience managing Information Technology projects.

  • Technical understanding of IT and/or systems operations.

  • Experience in managing project schedules in Primavera.

OTHER ATTRIBUTES:

Functional Knowledge - Requires expertise in own specialized discipline or field. Requires technical knowledge of procedures, maintenance, operation and control of Turbine/Generator/Boiler and associated equipment.
