Regional Transportation/Fleet Manager - The Woodlands, TX

Description

The Regional Transportation/Fleet Manager will oversee the successful fleet operations of one of Linde Gases US Operations Areas, including, but not limited to, safety performance, cost savings, efficiency KPI attainment, driver staffing, equipment utilization, SMP / SOP implementation, Logistics / field dispatching improvements, championing and prioritizing improvement initiatives, and development of personnel in the field distribution and planning areas. The Regional Transportation/Fleet Manager will provide guidance and coaching to facilities in their region to meet Linde Gases US distribution efficiency and safety goals.

This individual will report to the Vice President of Distribution and be part of the Linde Gases US Management Team.

This team will be accountable for overall Linde Gases US transportation/fleet improvement in safety, cost and efficiency. The Regional Transportation/Fleet Manager will have accountability for distribution performance in their respective regions. Responsibilities include:

  • Focal point for regional transportation/fleet productivity initiatives

  • Responsible for regional transportation/fleet safety goals and delivering best in class performance

  • Responsible for bringing forward resource actions (supervisors, drivers, and mechanics) required to meet business plan. Focal point for bringing region equipment optimization & issues to the transportation/Fleet Management team.

  • Responsible for region maintenance data

  • Responsible for reviewing plant maintenance expenses and recommending cost savings initiatives

  • Responsible for reviewing trip efficiency and safety data with facilities and developing /implementing action plans for improvement

  • Responsible to work with facilities to recruit and hire drivers and mechanics. Focal point to review and approve new driver requests and carriers introduced to the region.

  • Represents region in value of National initiatives to region as well as idea generation, prioritization, determination and qualification of those initiatives selected to move forward

  • Responsible for championing /implementing new technologies to improve cost, efficiency and safety(OBC/Peoplenet, trailer tracking, vehicle safety programs, backing cameras, etc.)

  • Responsible for implementing productivity projects that have application to the region and are prioritized accordingly

  • Responsible for monthly updates to region management on current projects, initiatives, and KPI’s

  • Responsible for coordinating and ensuring that transportation fleet, and safety related training is complete and current for mechanics, drivers, and supervisors

  • Responsible to provide equipment specification guidance to the USIG Distribution Management team

  • Responsible for coordinating and esolving logistical issues, identification of improvement areas, coaching planners and fostering strong teamwork between the field and National Planning Organization

  • Responsible for ensuring that PM programs are effectively executed at each facility to meet DOT and Praxair requirements.

  • Works closely with global procurement (GPMM) in managing vendors for maintenance of equipment, trucks and trailers, contract procurement and purchase of service parts

  • Assist individual locations in coordinating with the Linde Gases US Admin and Compliance services organization; licensing and registration of region fleet equipment so as to adhere to federal and state regulations

  • Responsible for identifying and driving transportation/fleet improvements related to MPG, driver labor, maintenance, and equipment costs

  • May assist in the technical qualification of common and dedicated contract carriers in conjunction with GPMM. Leads periodic re-assessments of carriers.

  • Works with regions to identify fill zone loading improvement opportunities and to improve the process

Works with national planning and regional team to understand all distribution financials (including developing a cause of change).

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain preferred

  • Minimum of 7 years Transportation/Fleet logistics experience

  • Minimum of 5 years Transportation/Fleet management (process and people)

  • Strong communication skills

  • Critical and analytical thinking skills

  • Proficiency in computer-based tools and programs

  • Solid organizational skills are required to help prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Domestic travel required up to 50%

  • Location – The Woodlands, TX
