Position Summary:
The Director Strategic Operations, Neuroscience is responsible for leading the cross-TA Neuroscience Operations Team, and leading processes that seek to continually improve financial, organizational and cultural resilience across the TA, to shape a high performing and engaged organization. This position will report to and serve as a key partner to the VP Portfolio Strategy, Neuroscience.
Key Responsibilities:
People leader for the Neuroscience TA Operations team, with responsibility for performance, development, coaching, mentoring, guiding, and for maintaining and growing the high functioning and safe psychological environment of our team. Possesses a background of inspiring, coaching, and mentoring, in a manner that demonstrates high emotional intelligence. Manages the performance and development of the team through coaching, empowerment and open communications, including difficult conversations. Manages people appropriately, regardless of their level or performance. Cultivates an environment where team members feel safe to engage in open, honest conversations.
Provide oversight for TA processes managed by the TA Operations team, such as Headcount Capacity Management, Headcount Review, Compliance and Inspection Readiness, Contracting, Sponsorships, Collaborations, and Interns.
Understand the big picture of our Neuroscience business, translating business concepts into short- and long-term deliverables, managing ambiguity and decision making. Independently identify business needs, and work to solutions using strong project management skills and strategy-of-operations thinking and leveraging the NPSI team and peer network. Manage multiple large-scale and/or complex projects or processes.
Act as a trusted advisor and thought partner to Development function and CDTs on financial and operational issues and opportunities of the Neuroscience precision development portfolio, including as ad hoc team member for Operational Management Committee.
Partner with Finance, TA Development functions including CDTLs, and functional areas supporting Neuroscience (DPDS, DU Heads, Leads in DU) to lead Business Planning timelines and communications, productivity levers process, management of Development Discretionary OOPs forecast and actuals, Above Program Initiatives, program closeouts and initiations. Provide assistance to L&A efforts for forecasting projections.
Coordinate periodic development executive reporting across all three DASs including GOC/EC and J&J IM SLT reports and Investor Relations, working with partners including CDTLs and Communication.
As needed, represent Neuroscience TA on J&J IM- and TA-wide operational initiatives including Site Network Strategy, Benchmark Refresh, Culture Council, and Site Governance.
As needed, work closely with NPSI team members to identify the changing needs of the Neuroscience business, and develop, implement and sustain Neuroscience business processes that ensure efficient implementation of TA portfolio strategy.

Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in life sciences is required. Post-graduate degree in life sciences or business management preferred.
Minimum of 10 years working within the pharmaceutical or related industry, including demonstrated success leading teams.
Strategy of operations expertise required, with at least 5 years of experience in an R&D related function with a strong development operations component (e.g. Clinical Development or Project Management). Experience in financial planning, budget and resource tracking and management, and/or project and program management.
Exceptional problem-solving skills with the capacity to anticipate business risks, develop creative solutions and meet objectives. Ability to lead strategy of operations, with demonstrated results in key organizational drivers such as productivity, value creation, development cycle time, or organizational culture. Results oriented, able to think creatively, critically, and proactively, to drive innovative solutions.
Breadth of experience in leading people of varying levels via support, guidance, coaching and open conversations to reach their full potential, Ability to build trust, inspire, develop, collaborate, and lead to solutions within a global matrixed team.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate, consult, facilitate and communicate effectively in a global matrix environment, with the ability to build positive relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of hierarchy, regardless of authority.
Self motivated, with a high level of comfort with operating independently in an entrepreneurial environment. Big picture orientation with solid attention to detail. A results and performance driven demeanor with solid sense of accountability and drive to get results.
Up to 10% travel may be required.
Remote work options will be considered on a case by case basis and if approved by the company.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$160,000-$276,000
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
