This position will be responsible for planning, overseeing, and coordinating project management capabilities for Global Development (GD), as well as liaising with key stakeholders to ensure a coherent, aligned strategy across all relevant levels of the organization. This individual will also focus on influencing and equipping our project managers in GD with leading industry trends, competency upskilling and development of career ladders. The Director will partner with appropriate stakeholders to develop and align on a holistic strategy, approach and plan that supports the overall Global Development goals and objectives, embeds change, strengthens culture, and implements ways of working. The Director combines deep project management expertise with expert leadership to engage with our GD clinical functions and Delivery Units to drive program acceleration and increase probability of success by ensuring the PM Operating Model is utilized.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor emerging trends for project and trial management and planning (e.g. automation, tools, etc.)

  • Define GD-wide strategy for project management with clear quality standards and aligned with PM excellence goals, elevating/re-enforcing PM as a critical business process.

  • Define GD-wide strategy for trial management and planning.

  • Participate in activities of diverse PM organizations across J&J (e.g. J&J PMNet, community of practice) and bring best practices to GD for potential implementation. PML Academy responsibilities.

  • Participate in X-TA trial management and planning activities.

  • Define standardized Core PM processes aligned with PMI standards (e.g. Planning, monitoring/control, risk mgmt., budget, and resource mgmt.)

  • Business Ownership of project mgmt. solutions including Planisware. Data governance for PM tools.

  • Create templates for project management execution (e.g. Planisware and MSP templates)

  • Ensure consistent use of PM tools and systems (e.g. Planisware, MSP, scenario planning)

  • Ensure application of PM methodologies across TA’s (e.g. role expectations, accountabilities, terminology, and core PM processes)

  • Define PM operating model and ways of working.

  • Share best-practices for effective teams (e.g. meeting management)

  • Responsible for leadership and influence with indirect PM talent, including defining a clear career path ladder for project management employees within GD.

  • Develop, track and report on key performance indicators and metrics to support continuous improvement and effectiveness of PM practices to ensure maximum value generation for Global Development.

  • Orchestrate and facilitate connection with Global Development (GD) leaders and key stakeholders to align across Delivery Units and oversee the execution of GD Project Management principles that supports GD goals and objectives, manage change, and embed the target culture and ways of working.

  • Identify capability improvement opportunities and work with Project Management teams to drive improvements within the organization across our people, processes, and technology focus areas.

  • Budget planning for any central PM or Planning needs for Global Development. Partnering and oversight of any third parties, contractors, and budget management.

  • Key participant and member of PM Excellence Committee. Drive goals, objectives, and deliverables of this cross- functional leadership team focused on Project Management excellence.

  • Cultivate strong relationships and partnerships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of a Bachelors Degree with at least 10 years of product development and project management experience is required

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Operational knowledge of project management systems and visualization software is required

  • Project management experience in cross functional R&D is required.

  • Experience in a global matrix organization is required.

  • Demonstrated ability to be creative and flexible to change/improve working environment in broad context is required.

  • Must be capable of managing and prioritizing multiple priorities and have excellent overall business acumen is required

  • Proven experience in a leadership role with a focus on strategic influence, stakeholder engagement, and organizational change management is required

  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, with the ability to build rapport, trust, and credibility with diverse stakeholders is required

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and influence decision-making at all levels of the organization is required

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of developing innovative influence strategies to achieve business goals is required

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, while maintaining a positive and collaborative approach is required

  • Experience working in cross-functional or matrixed organizations, with a deep understanding of organizational dynamics and political landscapes is required

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $142,000 to $244,950 USD.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
