Job Summary:
As a Senior Engineering Project Team Lead on the Hydraulic Mining Shovel (HMS) team you will serve as a Platform Technical Lead for an assigned HMS machine platform leading all associated engineering activities. You will manage the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor and coach enterprise team members, and deepen your professional network. You will interact with people from diverse technical and cultural backgrounds. Incumbent will work within the team and beyond the team with contractors, suppliers, customers, and individuals working in many Caterpillar organizations. You will ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. This position resides within the Hydraulic Mining Shovel Engineering team in Tucson, AZ.
What you will do:
Manage all engineering deliverables across multiple machine systems associated with an assigned HMS machine platform.
Provide technical leadership for machine New Product Introduction (NPI) programs working closely with NPI project manager.
Support product health organization using technical expertise and product knowledge in addressing machine Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and customer issues.
Collaborate with global manufacturing team to evaluate, define, and resolves design and manufacturing problems.
Direct all engineering product maintenance activities associated with machine platform.
Lead global teams in the design of new products, processes, components, and systems.
Develop, maintain, and communicate bill of material structure for Hydraulic Mining Shovel machine platform.
Interact with peers and supporting teams to maintain cross platform product-line commonality.
Provide guidance to other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met.
Maintain machine requirements and technical specification documents.
Proactively identify roadblocks and work with teams to rapidly resolve to improve overall team and program efficiency.
Provide regular reports and updates, both verbal and written, to management and team members on machine platform activities.
Support marketing and commercial teams with technical information related to machine platform.
Review platform specific literature to ensure accuracy prior to publishing.
Conduct technical evaluations of major systems on competitive products.
Complete projects on time and on cost.
Acknowledge and raise management’s awareness of trade-offs between time, resources, and quality.
Communicate results to global customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units.
Travels to foreign and domestic plants, dealerships, and customer job sites to solve design problems or to field-test locations to evaluate product improvements.
The Senior Engineering Project Team Lead role will not have supervisor responsibility for direct reporting employees. Instead, you will direct resources assigned to your program from multiple supporting organizations.
What you will have:
Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum
10+ years in progressive assignments to gain experience in engineering and manufacturability concepts.
Top Candidates will also have:
Previous project or team leadership experience.
Hydraulic Mining Shovel product experience.
Proficiency in Creo / ProE and Teamcenter engineering systems.
Knowledge of the engineering releasing and product change control processes.
The ability to draw upon foundational product development skills such as requirements management.
Knowledge of Caterpillar processes (i.e. NPI, CPPD, PPRD, APQP, CPI).
Strong analytical skills and mechanical aptitude.
Experience in multiple technical areas such as hydraulics, structures, engine installation, etc.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience working in a global engineering environment.
Ability to multitask and adjust to changing priorities as needs arise.
Prior off highway machine mechanical design experience.
