Job Description
The Specialist, Business Insights and Analytics, will be responsible for developing and communicating data-driven and actionable insights that drive greater customer and market understanding to inform launch & go-to market strategies and help meet in-line commercial objectives.
The individual in this role will be an independent contributor as well as lead a team and, together, will act as the Business Insight and Analytics partner for the US Rare Disease marketing teams. The ideal candidate will lead an insight team consisting of functional teams across market research, data strategy, forecasting, resource effectiveness, measurement, marketing/sales operations, digital analytics, competitive insights and strategy. This person will help scope, design, and deliver well-defined projects and insights; and track value ‘at stake’ and value realized.
The preferred candidate should have intellectual curiosity, entrepreneurial spirit, consultative mindset, strong understanding of healthcare & pharma marketing. The person should be able to identify the data, analytics and research needs to define, enable, and inform commercial strategies of our brand and business leaders. The selected candidate should have a good understanding of US data landscape, commercial analytics capabilities, and technology. This person should have demonstrated the ability to create structure, break down unstructured problem statements into solvable chunks, articulate what needs to be answered through new pieces of research and what needs to be addressed through secondary data driven analytics. The candidate should have Rare Disease expertise/therapeutic area knowledge.
This role will require interfacing and collaborating with many teams. The candidate should demonstrate consistently strong leadership skills. The preferred candidate should have worked with cross functional teams in their prior roles, demonstrated the ability to develop talent and create a strong team culture that brings the best out of everyone in the team. The person will have a growth mindset and embody a culture of continuous learning. Effective communication skills are essential for a candidate to be successful in this role.
Individuals in this role should have shown the ability to mentor and work with teams (direct line management and indirect management of individuals with a dotted reporting line). The individual will develop the next generation of leaders within HHDDA (Human Health Digital, Data & Analytics). It is critical for the candidate to create a team culture where team members are focused on ‘things that matter’, empowered to act with urgency, actively innovate and are supported through continuous learning and feedback process. Responsibilities:
Performance Reporting: Take the lead on performance reporting for rare disease, ensuring timely delivery of detailed insights and analysis on product performance metrics and trends. This includes developing reports and dashboards that inform stakeholders and guide strategic business decisions.
Model Development: Apply statistical and mathematical models to analyze rare disease performance, developing efficient programming code and software assets that provide advanced analytical functionality.
Business Context Understanding: Analyze the business context, challenges, limitations, and goals to align statistical and machine learning approaches with operational and scientific challenges relating to rare disease.
Analytics Integration: Ensure that advanced analytics directly support decision-making processes related to rare disease and are embedded in regular business operations; promote understanding and adoption among stakeholders.
Collaborative Culture Promotion: Foster a collaborative, high-performing, data-driven culture across the organization and uphold high-quality delivery standards among fellow data scientists.
Domain Specialization: Utilize your expertise in therapeutic areas and data assets (e.g., claims data, EMR) to inform analytical approaches and enhance performance analysis.
Advanced Techniques Application: Use advanced analytical/statistical techniques to analyze and optimize commercial business strategies, particularly focusing on rare disease metrics and outcomes.
Quality Assurance: Ensure the delivery of high-quality, timely, and compliant analyses with excellent user experience; keep clients informed of progress and findings.
Trend Analysis and Communication: Communicate with other platforms/competencies to stay updated on emerging trends and methodologies; introduce new ideas to enhance analytic capabilities in performance reporting.
Innovative Experimentation: Contribute to innovative experiments by fostering a culture of idea generation, incubation, and experimentation, identifying tangible and measurable criteria for evaluation.
Stakeholder Engagement: Effectively communicate with and positively influence stakeholders regarding rare disease performance, ensuring their needs are met and insights are actionable.
Skills and Knowledge Needed for Success:
Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in delivering statistical and mathematical models; proficient in programming languages relevant to data analysis (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
Analytical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of advanced analytical/statistical techniques and their application in real-world scenarios, particularly in a healthcare context.
Business Acumen: Ability to comprehend business goals and challenges, translating them into actionable analytical strategies focused on rare disease.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of effectively conveying complex analytical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Collaboration and Teamwork: Proven ability to work collaboratively within teams, influencing others and promoting a shared vision for data-driven decision-making.
Continuous Learning: A commitment to staying current with industry trends, methodologies, and best practices, with a willingness to innovate and experiment.
Requirements for Education, Experience, and Skills:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, etc.).
5+ years of experience in data science or analytics roles, ideally within the pharmaceutical/biotech/healthcare industry.
Hands-on experience with claims data and EMR data analysis, and familiarity with clinical trial data and marketing effectiveness measurement.
Proven experience in performance measurement and reporting, particularly with metrics related to pharmaceutical products in rare disease
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or PhD) is preferred.
Demonstrated experience with machine learning methods and AI applications.
Prior experience managing projects and mentoring junior data scientists.
Work location : Upper Gwynedd, PA (role will be hybrid and chosen candidate is expected to be in the office at least 3 days/week).
