Job Description:

The VA Innovation Business Ops Lead – Lead Federal Project Manager within Cerner's Federal team will support the VA Innovation Executive in one of the largest healthcare transformation efforts in our nation’s history. The support and leadership responsibilities can include, but are not limited to, strategy, roadmap, processes, policies, workflows, and deliverables related to Innovation. You will be responsible for leading and motivating the project team throughout the project, including working closely with project stakeholders and managing project changes and challenges. Clear communication skills and an ability to work with all levels of personnel and management are essential.

  • Plan and direct work of individuals as part of cross-functional teams

  • Help develop estimates and plans for all phases of the program with guidance as needed

  • Review work products to meet quality requirements as written

  • Monitor and control work, taking corrective action based on variations

  • Maintain good working relationships with client and respond to client requests

  • Maintain awareness of related programs in client environment

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement

  • Create, implement, and manage Standard Operating Procedures

  • Accurately report plans and status through written and oral means

  • Ability to create and deliver presentations

  • Demonstrated experience managing program budgets including Profit and Loss

  • Ensure matrix team members are completing assigned tasks

  • Communicate program goals to stakeholders

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (scientific or health background preferred) with at least 3 years of innovation/process improvement related work experience

  • Clinical Experience preferred

  • Startup Accelerator Experience preferred

  • Federal government work experience preferred

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and/or equivalent Agile certification preferred

  • Able to define and implement project metrics for scope, schedule, cost, and quality

  • Able to use project management tools such as JIRA, MS Project, SharePoint, and capacity models

  • Due to the client contract you will be assigned, this position requires you to be a U.S. citizen

  • Receipt of the appropriate government security clearance applicable for your position


  • Willing to reside in a virtually approved city

  • Willing to travel up to 40% as needed

  • Willing to work additional or irregular hours as needed and allowed by local regulations

  • Work in accordance with corporate and organizational security policies and procedures, understand personal role in safeguarding corporate and client assets, and take appropriate action to prevent and report any compromises of security within scope of position

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned
