About this role

What will you be responsible for?

The Environmental Superintendent ensures compliance with environmental permits, plans, and regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing reports and permit applications, interacting with regulators and external stakeholders, preparing budgets, managing projects, and supervising Environmental Coordinators.

Strategy:

•Advance site environmental performance through a continuous improvement approach to: proactively manage environmental risk, ensure regulatory compliance, maintain CC&V’s social license, and advance implementation of sustainable mining practices.

•Support execution of CC&V’s business plan through direct support in the areas of environmental compliance and permitting.

Essential Job Duties:

•Support development of environmental performance strategies and objectives for managing risks.

•Lead efforts to deliver on CC&V’s environmental objectives and track progress against targets.

•Develop and manage budgets, develop and support capital investment requests.

•Develop and manage relationships with environmental regulators, local government agencies, and other stakeholders.

•Lead environmental compliance programs to ensure permit obligations and regulatory requirements are met.

•Supervise team of Environmental Coordinators.

•Develop and manage complex environmental plans related to air, water, waste rock and biodiversity.

•Manage large environmental projects, contractors, and consultants.

•Support mine closure technical studies and concurrent reclamation plans.

•Lead gap assessments against Newmont Environmental standards, develop and execute corrective action plans to ensure conformance and mitigate risk.

•Prepare environmental compliance reports and review reports prepared by direct reports.

•Prepare complex permit modifications and renewal applications.

•Evaluate the severity of environmental events, their effect on the environment, and determine proper response or escalation.

•Lead investigations, identification of corrective actions, and share learnings for environmental related events.

•Manage internal and external environmental audits and technical reviews.

Communication & Influencing:

•Provide regular updates to site leadership of project matters, anticipating issues and identifying risks that require action or contingency planning.

Your Training, Skills & Experience

Here is what we need to see from you!

Education:

Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or related field preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 8 years of experience in mining and environmental regulations or 10+ years of related experience.

Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of State and Federal Environmental Regulations and NEPA and RCRA.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, GoldSim, MonitorPro and Enablon an asset.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions & Location

Position based in United States at the Cripple Creek & Victor Mine, located in Teller County Colorado.

Schedule is 4x10's

Work outside in all weather conditions.

Walk on rough, uneven, inclined, wet terrain, and climb stairs.

Wear personal protective equipment including steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, earplugs, long sleeved shirts, or any other equipment to perform duties safely.

Must hold a valid vehicle driver’s license.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $106,800- 126,825. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
