About this role

What will you be responsible for?

Employees in this classification are responsible for collecting air, soil, water and process solution samples in conformance with standard operating procedures and permit requirements.

Your role will consist of

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

•Collect field samples in support of CC&V S&ER department. This may include the collection of air, soil, water, and other samples. Water samples to be collected may be from the following sites: solution pipe discharge, solution line ports, process ponds, streams, springs and seeps, production wells, and monitoring wells.

•Complete necessary field inspections as directed, including the inspection of barrel storage areas.

•Ship collected samples to offsite analytical laboratories for quantitative and qualitative analysis. Package samples in coolers with sufficient ice to keep samples cool. (Packaged coolers can weigh up to sixty pounds).

•Communicate effectively with supervisor and others verbally and using email, memos, and reports.

•Compile and present groundwater data as needed. As necessary prepare reports in agency format. Prepare and distribute semi-annual and annual environmental compliance reports.

•Assist the Environmental Specialist in the completion of quarterly water quality monitoring reports.

•Ability to work outdoors in inclement conditions.

•Ability to be On-Call as part of the department On-Call rotation.

•Work cooperatively with others. Develop working relationships with co-workers and other departments to facilitate problem solving, trouble shooting and task completion.

•Employees must comply with state and federal health and safety regulations, company policies, and procedures, and the companies environmental compliance policy.

•Promote Newmont environmental stewardship values and permit compliance within the workforce.

•Maintain spreadsheets, enter data and create graphs using Excel software. Input, output, and manage data within EHS Data – Monitor Pro 5 software as required.

•Collect data from and program various data loggers as necessary using proprietary software.

•Perform light maintenance on sampling pumps, generators, and equipment.

•Operate field equipment as necessary to complete sample collection (pumps, controllers, pH meters, GPS equipment, etc.).

•Determine groundwater elevations from monitoring and production wells using the following techniques: manually probe well with a water level meter, utilize a mechanized reel equipped with a graduated cable and sounding device, download data logger with a laptop computer and designated software.

•Purge and sample water from monitor wells using the following equipment: portable submersible pump, dedicated pumps, hand bailing device, or mechanized bailing.

•Determine field parameters including flow rate, temperature, pH, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen using appropriate field instruments.

•Maintain and calibrate field instruments using known chemical standards

•Assist in the installation of monitoring wells.

•Prepare drums for shipment to offsite disposal and treatment facilities.

•Schedule monitoring and reporting duties to ensure compliance with applicable permits and/or plans.

•Conduct visible emissions readings, and attend semi-annual visible emissions training sessions as necessary.

•Interact with mine site personnel to increase environmental awareness and ensure environmental compliance at site.

Your Training, Skills & Experience

Here is what we need to see from you!

Experience:

•Five years’ experience in mining preferred

•Two years’ experience as an environmental or hydrology technician.

Skills and Abilities:

•Working knowledge of proper sampling techniques and procedures.

•Possess a working knowledge of environmental requirements.

Working Conditions & Location

•Position based in the United States at the Cripple Creek & Victor Mine, located in Teller County Colorado.

•Must be able to work at high altitude.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $59,120- 70,205. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
