As a key member of the Mine Asset Management team and working an 8/6-day shift roster, you will be pivotal in ensuring quality management of all fabrication and welding activities conducted onsite through assisting with the development and implementation of weld procedures and methodologies to support the Boddington HME fleet requirements. You will work closely with Fabrication and Asset Health Teams and Engineers to ensure quality is at the forefront of all tasks involved with fabrication and product improvement.

Core Responsibilities

  • Development and upkeep of Newmont welding procedure documentation and electronic storage ensuring procedures are compliant and readily accessible to key stakeholders.

  • Development and management of maintenance procedures for welding equipment and temperature measuring instrumentation to ensure that machines are calibrated according to schedule and standards.

  • Liaise with other Newmont personnel, site and off-site Business Partners and industry on weld procedures, technologies and best practice with an emphasis on identifying improvement opportunities.

  • Investigate and implement new weld procedures with a focus on special high strength materials as applicable to booms and shovels.

  • Review and approval of all subcontracting weld standard operating procedures prior to the commencement of work

  • Liaise with Newmont Contracts team to ensure Business Partners accountable for welding or ancillary services comply with the same or higher level of AS/NZS ISO 3834 – 3.

  • Auditing and feedback on Business Partner/Vendor premises when welding is being carried out and ensure the appropriate weld procedure and welder qualifications are in place.

  • Inspect and testing of welds and advise corrective actions on non-conformance works.

  • Provide direction and guidance for site to comply with all required Australian Standards on works performed onsite and offsite

  • Development and maintenance of welder qualification register.

    About you

    You will be a self-motivated individual who is equally able to work with minimal supervision or in group scenarios, be a proactive communicator able to engage effectively with teams, business partners and suppliers across all areas of the business. You will be able to demonstrate a personal commitment and alignment to Newmont’s key values.

    Detailed understanding and experience in the application of Australian Standards, in particular – AS2214 Certification of Welding Supervisors – Structural Steel Welding and AS1796 Certification of Welders and Welding Supervisors is central to this role. You will be a competent user of MS Products, SharePoint and SAP.

    Prior experience in on-the-job training and mentoring along with the capability to identify training needs and skill gaps in trades people is essential

    Your Australian Recognised Trade Qualification in Fabrication and/or Welding, Certificate 10 Welding Supervisor together with experience as a Boilermaker working on heavy mining equipment is essential to be considered for this position. Applicants moving to the next stages will require High-Risk License e.g. WAH, and Forklift together a valid C Class WA Drivers Licence.
