About This Role:

  • To coordinate and manage the activities of the Process Plant Operations team in the operation of the Akyem process plant to attain maximum production (high throughput and recovery of gold production at lowest unit cost) in a safe and cost-effective manner.

  • To review results and operating conditions and make changes that would improve plant performance and output.

  • To develop budgets and maintain operating costs within budget.

In This Role You Will:

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Familiarize with and strictly follow Newmont's Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, acting as a role model and accepting personal accountability for the health and safety of all supervised employees.

  • Conduct thorough investigations of incidents / accidents, take corrective actions to prevent injuries or recurrences, and ensure the implementation of job and safety training programs.

  • Comply with all environmental regulations and compliance programs as part of Newmont's Integrated Management System, aligned with the company's vision and values.

Production

  • Plan and direct plant production to meet schedules, coordinate with maintenance for equipment availability, and optimize economic return between equipment longevity and throughput.

  • Prepare production reports and coordinate with technical, metallurgical and assay departments to maintain operational standards.

  • Initiate projects and direct activities for continuous safety and production improvements.

People Management

  • Direct supervision of General Foreperson - Process Operations, ensuring staff training aligns with Newmont's development programs and technology transfer from Expatriate to National employees.

  • Support and promote National employee training and skill development as part of the responsibility for Operations functional work plans.

  • Responsible for meeting plans and goals through continuous monitoring of progress.

Functional Planning / Scheduling

  • Responsible for developing and achieving Operations functional work plans, managing risks, and maintaining the Management Operating System (MOS) for the production section on the processing plant.

  • Accountable for achieving level 3 maturity for MOS elements identified as 'Accountable' on the MOS RACI chart, including taking immediate action on non-conformances and inducting new team members in MOS Elements.

  • Ensure the completion of all tasks identified in the Akyem MOS to specified quality and timeliness, resolve MOS Element non-conformances, and take action on improvement opportunities.

  • Keep all MOS element documentation current and communicate approved changes to all stakeholders, ensuring new team members are inducted in their respective MOS elements.

Financial Management

  • Responsible for writing Authorization for Expenditure (AFEs) for capital projects aimed at improving throughput, reducing costs, or enhancing efficiencies.

  • Ensure timely submission and quality of AFEs, monitor capital spending and manage expenditures within target ranges.

  • Promptly close out completed projects, ensuring deliverables are met and contribute to the Business Planning process.

  • Accountable for budgeting and cost control across multiple cost centers and approving purchases within delegated authority limits.

Project Management

  • Oversee development projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within cost by managing project status and initiating corrective actions.

  • Maintain project compliance and quality, while identifying opportunities for improvement.

Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering or Mineral Processing or related field and equivalent combination of training and experience in leading a large multi-national processing plant.

  • Process / Plant / Metallurgical Superintendent’s Certificate of Competency from the Inspectorate Division of Minerals Commission, Ghana.

Experience:

  • Possess combined experience in management or superintendent level in mining industry of construction, commissioning and operational phases of large-scale processing plant.

  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience in mineral processing plant, with a minimum of 3 years in gold processing and demonstrated expertise in SAG grinding.

  • Management and supervisory experience in a developing country with a large group of employees, both staff and hourly.

  • Management and supervisory experience with a large group of employees (both staff and hourly) in a developing country is preferred.

  • Process start-up experience would be a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access).

  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and consultation skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

  • Ability to identify and analyze organizational needs.
