Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

The role

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent you will be the key liaison and facilitation role with various leaders in Operations, Technical services, Mining Systems, IT/OT and projects.

Key accountabilities

  • Continuous improvement and optimization

  • Data analysis

  • Systems set-up

  • Project management

  • Influencing, Coaching, Support and Leadership as required with new systems and/or technologies implementation

  • Identify Risk and Opportunities in the operation

  • Look for and implement monitoring processes and data driven decision making

Purpose

  • Support Technical Services in developing tools for improved communication and ensuring Business Plan objectives are met.

  • Support Operations team in achieving the requirements of the mine plan across short term planning horizons that support the longer term objectives.

  • Design and implement frameworks to effectively manage adoption of new technologies and systems within the mining operations, focusing on automating processes, developing analytics, and data driven decision making.

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and IT/OT teams to ensure the smooth integration of technology and enhanced use of existing systems, promoting innovation and operational excellence.

  • Develop and manage protocols for the testing and validation of integrated systems, ensuring they meet operational and design specifications.

The person

  • Excellent communicator and Team Player, Strong analytical skills, with a focus on Continuous Improvement

  • Ability to work and perform under pressure

  • Experience in Underground metalliferous mining

  • Familiarity and experience of the Australian mining industry

  • Strong analytical skills, with a focus on Continuous Improvement

  • Dynamic, self-motivated, a determination to excel, and a commitment to action

Training & experience

  • Bachelor degree in the Mine Engineering or related discipline

  • Experience and exposure with Mine Planning/Scheduling, Mining Technology implementation and IT/OT Operations

  • Working knowledge of software packages and programming languages: Deswik Suite, MS Power Platform, MineStar, DAX, SQL and/or common programming languages

Working conditions

The position is located at the Tanami mine site, FIFO from either Perth, Brisbane, Darwin or Alice Springs with additional work time as required to meet commitments and requirements of the role.
