The Role

We are currently seeking two experienced Control Systems Engineers to join our team at Newmont working remotely from the Perth Regional Office. The Senior Control Systems Engineers will be responsible for planning, engineering, implementing and upgrading process automation systems and control networks across all Newmont sites globally and will report to the Manager, Operations Support Hub Projects.

In This Role You Will:

  • Collaborate with automation equipment vendors and site-based resources to plan and develop detailed engineering for upgrades, standardization and/or replacement of ageing automation equipment and system infrastructure.

  • Develop AFE’s, budgets, execution plans, schedules and justifications, manage costs and maintain accurate forecasts.

  • Collaborate with capital project teams, assist automation system conceptual design applicable to the development of Greenfield projects.

  • Design automation system and network cabinet layouts, power and communication networks, configure automation hardware devices, perform intermediate level logic programming and HMI setup, develop and maintain system documents and drawings.

  • Manage automation system integration and vendor contracts, supervise installers, setup and commission newly installed systems and hardware.

  • Lead rollout of control system projects globally and support contractors and consultants to safely achieve project timelines.

The Person

You will have a strong understanding of electrical and electronic control systems design, operations and maintenance. You will obtain the ability to understand and communicate strategies to resolve problems, develop solutions and make appropriate designs.

Effective communication, negotiation and facilitation skills will drive success when working across multiple regions and levels within the business. Self-motivation, assertiveness and the ability to build and maintain collaborative, productive and professional relationships will be critical to achieving desired outcomes. Your qualifications and skills will include:

  • Bachelors Degree or Certificate VI (Advanced Diploma) in an appropriate discipline; Electrical, Electronics or Instrumentation, Automation or Computer Science.

  • Extensive experience in control systems project development, preferably in the mining industry.

  • Substantial experience integrating control system projects up to $5M USD

  • Demonstrated success maintaining and developing brownfield control systems within operational process plants.

  • Demonstrated success within a project team executing Greenfield control system projects.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of risk mitigation strategies associated with control systems and OT network infrastructure.

  • Strong understanding of maintenance strategies and best practices in automation system and control network design.

  • Experience with industrial communications systems and protocols such as Ethernet IP, Modbus, HART, Profibus etc.

  • Experience in gold processing will be well regarded.

  • International experience in project execution, training, mentoring and developing others.

  • Proof of current Covid-19 Vaccination is required as per the WA and NT Government directions.

Working Conditions

This position is a full time permanent position, global in scope working remotely from the Australian regional office in Subiaco.

This position is required to travel to domestic and international sites, and will be required to attend work related meetings outside standard business hours to communicate with regions in various time zones.
