Thrivent Financial Director, Personal Trust & Estate Settlement (Remote) in United States

Job Summary

Responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the Personal Trust & Estate Settlement Team within Thrivent Trust Company. This team administers all personal trust, estate settlement, and guardianship accounts for the Trust Company, which from a legal, tax, and regulatory perspective are some of the most complex accounts that a Financial Services company may handle. Must possess in-depth knowledge and experience with fiduciary law, fiduciary administration, estate taxes, gift taxes, income taxes, and compliance requirements. Guides and develops staff and processes to create an effective fiduciary control and client service environment. Provides business thought, strategic leadership, and process improvements to fiduciary management processes and projects. Active and valued participant in business development, field education, and trust company leadership team.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Member of leadership team that is responsible for ensuring the proper operations and strategic direction of an OCC chartered National Trust Bank.

  • Provide leadership and support for the Personal Trust & Estate Settlement Team consisting of 6 direct reports, including oversight, planning, and implementation of all fiduciary and related activities, as well as management of staff which include attorneys and career professional Trust Officers.

  • Responsible to review fiduciary practices and to develop, recommend and implement policies, procedures, specifically to include document review and account acceptance, trust and estate administration, tax, and risk management matters.

  • Have extensive direct contact with internal and external business partners and vendors, in addition to attorneys, CPA’s, and other professionals regarding overall fiduciary administration and implementation of processes and procedures.

  • Responsible for exercising Trustee discretion in irrevocable trusts to satisfy requests of trust beneficiaries. This requires legal judgment to apply the terms of the trust to fiduciary law while balancing the needs of the beneficiary along with the size of the trust.

  • Pursue ongoing professional training and development to enhance professionalism and credibility, and to ensure compliance with applicable department, regulatory and fiduciary guidelines. Decides best approach to education of the department, the field and corporate staff regarding complex legal issues of trusts, estates, and advance directives.

  • Recruits, develops, and sustains a high-performing team while promoting a culture of shared accountability, operational excellence, and partnership across the organization.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Law degree required. Admitted to practice and in good standing.

  • Position requires 10+ years of demonstrated experience in trust and estate administration, tax, estate planning or related experience.

  • 5+ years of people leadership with demonstrated leadership experience of seasoned professionals (Attorneys, Accountants, Professional Trust Officers as well as staff and operations functions).

  • Strong communication/interpersonal skills with emphasis on customer service, conflict management, teamwork, and coaching skills.

  • Demonstrated ability with significantly improving processes and leading change.

Preferred:

  • Trust and estate law practice experience.

  • Investment management experience.

Additional Information

  • This position is fully remote with a preference for individuals located in Appleton, WI, as monthly travel to Appleton, WI, is required.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $178,751.00 - $241,839.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
