Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering modern leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Production Engineer, the Scheduling Engineer will be responsible for the coordination of all departments inputs to develop and maintain a short term mining schedule in line with 12 weekly mine production plan.

The role is based in Tanami and offers an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth, Darwin, Alice Springs and Brisbane ONLY.

Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaboratively develop the weekly plan and 7/21 schedules, with a wide range of stakeholders, in line with the 12 week schedule and quarterly forecasts

  • Collate, validate and enter daily production figures

  • Facilitate daily production meeting, directing team focus toward variance and plan compliance

  • Facilitate the Weekly Pre-Commitment, Commitment and Weekly Review meetings

  • Provide commentary on weekly performance to report up

  • Work closely with the Senior Production engineer to achieve business outcomes

  • Be an active member of the Mining Supervision Team, Operational technical team, Geology and Projects departments to optimise the production plan

  • Work with the broader technical teams to implement the mine production plan

  • Drive active participation in mine planning activities of other stakeholders

  • Direct daily and weekly meeting schedule in line with the site Management Operating System

  • Be conversant with long term planning objectives

The Person

  • Bachelor degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent

  • Excellent communicator and Team Player

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Ability to perform under pressure

  • 12 Months Practical experience in underground metalliferous mining

  • A minimum of 2.5+ years’ experience in an underground environment

  • At least 1 year experience with production scheduling in underground mine

  • Understanding of longhole stoping methods, including pastefill

  • Computer literacy with common industry standard business software such as Microsoft products essential, mine design and scheduling software viewed favourably

  • Deswik experience desirable

To be considered for this role, you must be able to meet the site access requirements by having a current driver’s license, passing a police clearance and pre-employment medical.
