Position Summary:
The Senior Engineer manages work with minimal supervision, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions, and takes action to resolve.
As Senior Engineer – DPAC, you will be responsible for supporting the implementation of DEM distribution system settings to achieve our reliability goals. You will perform system protection analysis to determine optimal operation of automated protective devices, and issue settings to achieve that functionality. You will support outage investigation and event analysis of to determine root cause and prevent future interruptions. You will work with Enterprise project and Standards resources to support upgrades to the Distribution system tools and software.
Responsibilities:
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.
Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
Senior Engineer Basic Qualifications:
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
Lead Engineer Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering
In addition to required degree, 8 years related work experience.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
Professional Engineer Certification.
Understanding of basic theory of power system protection and coordination.
Understanding of basic theory of power system protection for renewable energy sources.
Familiarity with Distribution system protective devices and how they operate.
Familiarity with software tools used for power system analysis (CYMTCC, SKM, ETAP, etc.)
Familiarity with SEL relay operation and programming.
Familiarity with the principles/practices of Distribution Automation.
Experience in the utility industry.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Skilled in distribution power system protection theories and principles
Proficient in distribution system coordination, including circuit breakers, reclosers, sectionalizers, fuses
Familiar with DE Indiana distribution system
Skilled in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Skilled principles of project management.
Experience in the utility industry.
Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department.
Mobility Classification
- Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility.
Specific Requirements
