Fresenius Medical Care North America Director State Tax Compliance and Planning in Waltham, Massachusetts
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Director of State Tax Compliance and Planning oversees the tax governance planning strategies and supports the tax department with related tax compliance and reporting of these transactions for North America jurisdictions. Engages with business partners to ensure tax is a partner with Operational and Financial stakeholders formulating processes that drive optimal strategic outcomes and mitigate risk.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advise on state tax implications of current and proposed transactions via research of law and analysis of accounting records.
Advise on state tax issues and structuring related to mergers and acquisitions.
Develop and implement strategies to reduce state taxes consistent with law and regulations.
Advise on proposed changes in state tax law that will impact Fresenius. Monitor state legislation with government affairs personnel. Quantify the impact and recommend solutions to avoid exposure or obtain benefit.
Coordinates preparation of state and local corporate tax returns, consisting of income and franchise returns, estimates, and extensions, and other returns.
Coordinates analysis of legal entities with general ledgers.
Ensures that tax planning initiatives are properly incorporated into the tax compliance processes.
Collaborates with cross-divisional teams in the creation of structures which minimize taxation.
Oversee the timely responses to tax notices and other correspondence;
Participation in ongoing tax systems and process re-design projects to further enhance process efficiencies.
Prepares and completes state effective rate analysis for budgets and financial statements.
Assist with various projects as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.

- May be responsible for the direct supervision of various levels of internal auditing staff.
EDUCATION :
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Advanced Degree preferred
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS :
8+ years’ related tax experience.
3+ years’ experience as a Manager preferred.
Substantial experience with state tax compliance.
CPA, MST or JD preferred.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Experience with Corptax. OneSource Tax Provision, or an equivalent tax compliance and provision software system. Experience with SAP, BNA and Altreyx or similar systems a plus.
Detail oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
Strong management skills with the ability to lead cohesive and productive teams.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse audiences through diplomacy and tact.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
