Job Description
The Senior Network Engineer's primary duties include operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting very complex IT networks. Will assist government users in system problem diagnosis and troubleshooting, collection of problem information, and recommendation of fixes. Participates in the daily activities of configuration and operation of customer IT networked systems. Provides quality assurance and operational reporting requirements. Will configure and test new technology, enhance current systems, and pioneer technology for new systems, work with cable fabrication, and troubleshoot communication lines and equipment.
Specifically, the selected candidate will work closely with military personnel for the operations and maintenance (O&M), install, testing and training of communication systems. Will perform in rack, cabinet, cable support system, and general telecommunications equipment mounting and terminate coaxial, Cat-6 UTP, multi-mode fiber, single mode fiber, and any other connection required in the support of telecommunications systems. Will troubleshoot end connectivity to distant end and remote locations and attached network devices and monitor Local and Wide Area Networks to include transport links, layer 1 and layer 2 network devices. Perform trend analysis on circuits, network devices and server infrastructure and will use a ticketing system to report network outages to local work centers and track status of the outage until restoration has occurred.
Will also design and install new cabling, equipment, and associated hardware and software to extend and/or enhance existing services. Monitor statuses and alert systems necessary to provide real time network availability to include remote applications and hardware necessary to monitor and communicate with remote sites as required.
Will also provide end-to-end support equipment and services, including instrument placement, infrastructure and other required services to provide telecommunications related connectivity within and external to the customer.
This position is located in Washington DC. There is no relocation assistance available for this position. Applicants must be currently residing in or state willingness to relocate self to Washington DC or surrounding areas.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
High school diploma and a minimum of 12 years of direct experience with telecommunications, integration design, installation, and support
Current SSBI/T5 adjudicated within the past three years (must be able to pass additional access screenings)
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification
Security certification in accordance with DOD 8570 instruction
Experience with Synchronous Optical Networks (SONET)
Experience Wide Area Networks
Routing and switching experience
IP network experience
BoIP and VoIP experience
Strong troubleshooting and problem isolation techniques for solving complex troubles with telecommunication instruments, equipment, circuits, channels, and trunk troubles where limited standardization exists.
Considerable knowledge base of secure communications instruments, MB lines, T-1 primary rate interfaces
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Experience using test equipment: O-scope, Fireberd, transmission test sets
Capable of systems analysis with highly complex technologies
Familiarity with patch panels
Knowledge of telecommunications fundamentals
Ability to be self-reliant
Capability to perform essential technical maintenance activities without direct supervision
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to professionally interact with high level military officers and civilian officials on a daily basis
Quality assurance experience with both new and upgraded telecommunications systems
Trainer / training experience
Positive service oriented attitude
Military experience / knowledge of customs and courtesies
Experience with larger enterprise IP networks and related networking equipment
Knowledge of DoD policies and procedures with regard to the installation, configuration, and management of Cisco IP Systems
Network certifications in accordance with DOD 8570 instruction
Experience with the development and presentation of briefings
Microsoft certification - MCSA, MCP, MCS
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $112420 - $191070
