Job Description

General Worker Duties included:

  • Assists with cleaning boilers, power, generation and mechanical equipment, which includes assisting with the erection of scaffolding for boiler outages, etc.

  • Assists Power House Operators in changing filters, resin, etc.

  • Assists department personnel with utility system/area inspections and maintenance.

  • Chips and touches up paint on departmental equipment; seals floors and equipment pads in departmental areas.

  • Performs miscellaneous duties in the Power House as required. Performs general cleaning of assigned departmental areas including mechanical spaces, public areas, substations, turbine generators, and perimeter of Building 2, fuel unloading and fuel tank area, acid and caustic skids, etc.

  • Moves and/or assists in the movement of equipment and materials (acid, caustic, sealer, salt, boiler chemicals, fuel oil, etc.) in the support of the Power House operations.

  • Maintains stock and fills safety stations at entrances of the Power House (eye/ear protection).

  • Performs clean-up on mechanical equipment in the Power House.

  • Performs safety and confined space entries/watch. Performs sump pump containment clean-outs as instructed by Power Distribution Electrician Supervisor.

  • Delivers and stages items received at the Building 2 dock.

  • Assists with the ice/snow removal on inclement weather days around the perimeter of Building 2 and related areas.

  • Handles/discards hazardous material waste to outside waste storage shed.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Experience:

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Fork Truck Certification.

  • Minimum of Six (6) months Experience with equipment cleaning, power plant support duties and material handling experience.

Preferred Skills or Abilities:

  • Confined space entry training

  • Electrical hazard awareness training,

  • Respirator fit testing,

  • Spill prevention containment and control training (SPCC)

Special Job Features:

Heat/cold. Bad odors. Heavy lifting (100 lbs.). Safety shoes, glasses and personal protective equipment as required. Noise, dust, dirt, dampness. Hand trucks up to 625 lbs. Exposure and handling of acids, solvents, chemicals and combustible fuels. Use of cleaning compounds. Potential exposure to superheated steam and hot water.
