Job Description

Digital Manufacturing Division delivers value to our Company Manufacturing Division through ownership of digital manufacturing solutions and factory automation excellence combined with deep business process knowledge. We are seeking a Manufacturing Process Modeling Analyst to join our process optimization team.

This role requires an in-depth understanding of AI/ML, Data Science, and statistical modeling techniques to apply knowledge effectively in solving complex problems across various process optimization domains. Core responsibilities include developing first principle models, statistical models, computer vision and deep learning models, hypothesis development, experimentation, dataset preparation and analysis, application of statistical modeling and AI/ML techniques, feature engineering for model performance enhancement, and overall management of the lifecycle of developed models.

In addition, the analyst holds a pivotal role in managing the lifecycle of existing production Machine Learning and Deep Learning models to ensure their ongoing accuracy and effectiveness. This responsibility encompasses monitoring for factors such as prediction drift, data drift, and outliers, and launching data labeling initiatives in collaboration with TechOps and manufacturing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for model retraining.

Moreover, this role involves collaborative experimentation with the team, focusing on hyperparameter optimization, drift, and outlier detection frameworks to offer proactive insights into model performance and data anomalies. It also necessitates gaining a profound understanding of inspection machines, GxP recipes, vision tools, Computer Vision frameworks, Machine Learning/Deep Learning frameworks, and defect types across various manufacturing scenarios. Collaborating with site teams to drive corrective actions and process improvements is an integral part of this position. Collaborating with global data scientists at our Company to define the future of MLOps and AI applications within the manufacturing environments.


  • Develop and implement computer vision and deep learning models for tasks such as object detection, image segmentation, and classification. This includes model selection, architecture design, and algorithm development.

  • Prepare and analyze datasets, apply statistical modeling techniques, and perform feature engineering to enhance model performance. This involves data preprocessing, cleaning, and exploration to ensure high-quality inputs for training and evaluation.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, present findings, and integrate machine learning models into production systems. This requires effective communication skills to understand business needs, share insights, and work with software engineers for model deployment.

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in computer vision, deep learning, and AI/ML techniques, and contribute to the improvement of AI/ML frameworks and tools. This involves researching and experimenting with new methodologies, attending conferences or webinars, and actively participating in the broader AI/ML community.

  • Provide expertise and guidance in AI/ML projects, including advising on model selection, optimization, and interpretation of results. This includes mentoring junior team members, conducting code reviews, and ensuring best practices are followed.

  • Deliver statistical and mathematical models through effective technical leadership.

  • Develop software assets that provides advanced analytical functionality. Create analytical software products (product parts) as a part of broader teams.

  • Understand the business context, challenge, limitation, constrains and goals to effectively match the capability of the statistical and mathematical and ML approaches to the business, scientific and operational challenge.

  • Ensure advanced analytics support to decision-making and business process tasks is understood, adopted, and embedded as a part of regular business activities.

  • Promote a collaborative and high performing data-driven culture across the company and high-quality delivery standards among fellow engineers.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Master's degree in Data Science or Machine Learning or Computer Science and 4+ years of experience on real-life ML/DL projects

  • Good knowledge of traditional supervised and unsupervised ML algorithms

  • Familiarity with a broad range of Deep Learning algorithms

  • Knowledge of the basic math of ML

  • Proven hands-on experience with the Python 3.x programming language.

  • Basic/Medium hands-on experience with scikit-learn and at least one of the major Deep Learning frameworks (Keras, TensorFlow or PyTorch)

  • Experience with Computer Vision tasks

  • Familiarity with Feature Engineering (at least structured data)

  • Familiarity with experiment tracking & Model Lifecycle Management

  • Excellent communications skills to share info and results with tech and business users

  • Experience with Model development, deployment, and management in a major Cloud environment (Preferably AWS)

  • Experience working in an Agile context

  • Strong Problem Solving & Troubleshooting & Communication Skills

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • PhD in Data Science or Machine Learning or Computer Science and 2+ years of experience on real-life ML/DL projects

  • Familiarity with Docker and Docker Compose

  • Relevant experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or biotech industry

  • Familiarity with Feature Engineering (unstructured data)

  • Familiarity with CI and MLOps best practices

  • Experience with System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), experience working in regulated & GxP environments.

  • Familiarity with Data Visualization or Dashboard design and configuration
