Job Description

The BAE Systems site in York, Pennsylvania supporting Combat Mission Systems is seeking an Industrial Engineering Manager for Manufacturing Activities. The Industrial Engineering Manager is responsible for the direction and management of a team of Industrial Engineers tasked with the development of existing and new facilities, material storage and movement, line set-up, and continuous improvement efforts. The manager supports development of the York site's manufacturing strategy and leads the implementation of the integration and deployment of products and programs into the manufacturing enterprise consistent with the strategic vision and business base determined by the Line of Business (LOB) leadership.

  • Works with the Industrial Engineering Group Manager to establish and implement the mission of the organization

  • Advises senior level management on various manufacturing options with recommendations, particularly with regard to capital expenditure requirements and factory work assignments.

  • Engages in regular communications with the operations managers, planners, logistics, and production operators to assess operations performance.

  • Provides direction to a team of Industrial Engineers focused on factory utilization and facility layouts to ensure strategic alignment and efficient utilization across facilities.

  • Collaborates with various internal departments that include Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Facilities, and Operations to develop a world-class manufacturing facility.

  • Develops and deploys a framework of continuous improvement utilizing lean principles by evaluating the value-stream of numerous combat vehicle programs

  • Delivers strategic inputs for the development of manufacturing plans and manufacturing readiness evaluations.

  • Collaborates with production management and process engineering to monitor labor targets, identify manufacturing constraints and create process improvement plans.

  • Provides leadership and management to maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance to safety objectives and policies.

  • Guides others to develop creative and innovative solutions to problems.

  • Contributes to the development of Operations strategic direction and helps guide the implementation of the strategic/technical plans within manufacturing operations.

  • Responsible for all personnel related activities for direct reports including performance management, career development, coaching, training, hiring and resolution of inter/intra group conflict.

  • Directs other projects as assigned by management or as business requirements change.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Process Engineering or closely related field.

  • Typically eight years experience in a manufacturing environment;

  • Ability to understand engineering drawings, bills of materials, and process flows;

  • Experienced leader;

  • People and team development skills;

  • Ability to motivate and lead teams effectively;

  • Strong command of communication skills enabling effective transfer of information across all levels of management and staff;

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to successfully meet deadlines in a rapidly changing environment;

  • Highly effective interpersonal, relationship building;

  • Working knowledge and experience with Six Sigma and lean manufacturing.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Experience working in a Department of Defense manufacturing environment a plus.

  • Direct people management experience preferred.

  • Visio a plus.
